Apparently the buzz was true, Sony Screen Gems is setting their sights on remaking Tom Holland's classic '80s flick, Fright Night, which starred Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, Amanda Bearse, Roddy McDowall and Stephen Geoffreys. According to STYD executive producer Scott Strauss (who may or may not still be attached) wants to take Fright Night in a different direction - one involving a gay amusement park in some way. No other details were revealed, but they are currently out to writers. In the original, when a teenager learns that his next door neighbour is gay, no one will believe him.
Icons of Fright has a rare treat in store for Los Angeles horror fans: a screening of 1985's vampire favorite FRIGHT NIGHT that also serves as a first-time reunion of its creators and cast. The midnight show on Friday, September 19 at the Nuart Theatre (11272 Santa Monica Boulevard, West LA), hosted by filmmaker Tim Sullivan, will be attended by writer/director Tom Holland, stars Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, Stephen Geoffreys and Jonathan Stark, composer Brad Fiedel and FX artist Randall Cook. They'll introduce the movie, then take part in a Q&A and sign autographs afterward.
"I'm delighted to be able to get together with all the great folks who made this picture with me almost 24 years ago here in Los Angeles," Holland says. "And it's great for us to be able to meet for an actual screening of the movie, with the faithful audience who have turned it into something of a cult movie, and all at a classic Los Angeles movie house—the Nuart. I'm looking forward to having our FRIGHT NIGHT family back together, getting to see the movie again with them and meeting our extended fan family as well. I think there will be lots of laughs and maybe even a chill or two."
Before the show, Sullivan will record an audio commentary with the FRIGHT NIGHT gang that will be available via his "Shock N Roll" column at the Icons site. "As a die-hard fan long disappointed with the film's bare-bones DVD release, I'm thrilled to help preserve its history by offering fans this exclusive commentary," Sullivan says. Tickets are $10.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and children and $5.50 for Bosnians.
