Vampires and the poor human beings who love them have been a hot onscreen item this season, as evidenced by HBO's lurid hit series "True Blood" and the marvelous Swedish import "Let the Right One In." For less discriminating palettes, there's the much-anticipated "Twilight," a disappointingly anemic tale of forbidden love that should satiate the pre-converted but will bewilder and underwhelm viewers who haven't devoured Stephenie Meyer's bestselling juvie chick-lit franchise. Built-in femme fanbase will lend this Summit Entertainment release some serious B.O. bite, with Robert Pattinson's turn as an undead heartthrob keeping repeat biz at a steady pump.
Having shown a real feel for the perilous social and emotional terrain of adolescent girlhood in her 2003 debut, "Thirteen," Catherine Hardwicke seemed as good a director as any to steer this maiden adaptation of Meyer's junior-Anne-Rice phenomenon. (Three more novels -- "New Moon," "Eclipse" and "Breaking Dawn" -- have been released since "Twilight's" publication in 2005, and the movie is nothing if not a prelude to future bigscreen sequels.)
But even with angsty rock songs, lurching camerawork and emo-ish voiceover at her disposal, Hardwicke can't get inside the head of her young protagonist, Isabella "Bella" Swan (Kristen Stewart); consequently, Bella's decision to get hot and heavy with a hot-and-hungry vampire, far from seeming like an act of mad, transgressive passion, comes across as merely stupid and ill-considered. The result is a supernatural romance in which the supernatural and romantic elements feel rushed, unformed and insufficiently motivated, leaving audiences with little to do but shrug and focus on the eye-candy.
Which is what Bella does when she first meets the brooding, intoxicatingly handsome Edward Cullen (Pattinson) at her new high school in Forks, Wash. Bella, a moody, intelligent teen who's just moved from Phoenix to live with her police-chief dad (Billy Burke), is an outsider in this dreary little Pacific Northwest town. So are Edward and his four equally striking (if unnaturally pallid) siblings, who keep to themselves, go on regular camping trips and have an odd habit of never eating.
Bella finds herself utterly transfixed by Edward. (Judging by the screaming tweens in the audience at the screening caught, she's not alone.) Yet devoid of the novel's first-person narration, the chain of events laid out in Melissa Rosenberg's screenplay -- Edward's initial and inexplicable hostility toward Bella, his habit of rescuing her from contrived endangerment scenarios, their playfully barbed flirtation, his revelation of his identity as a self-controlled but still-lethal bloodsucker and, finally, their mutual surrender to their feelings -- proceeds with none of the inner logic necessary even for a tale of the fantastic.
Admittedly, it's a relief that Rosenberg dispenses with Meyer's often embarrassingly overripe prose ("His hair was dripping wet, disheveled ... his dazzling face was friendly, open, a slight smile on his flawless lips"), and pic's selective rewriting of the rules of vampire lore (no coffins, no garlic, no fatal aversion to sunlight) does hold interest. There's a fleeting moment when the two leads -- standing together in a secluded glade, their bodies circled by the camera -- come close to capturing the tale's lush, swooning romanticism.
Stewart (seen recently and most impressively in "Into the Wild") makes Bella earthy, appealing and slightly withdrawn, and British thesp Pattinson (who registered poignantly as the ill-fated Cedric Diggory in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire") is every inch the deadly dreamboat. But as helmed by Hardwicke, the actors' early, awkward interactions feel particularly forced, and the script gives Stewart virtually nothing with which to convince the audience of her transcendent love for a guy who'd just as soon drink her blood as jump her bones.
Burke steals a few scenes as Bella's quietly dependable dad, as does the reliably sharp-witted Anna Kendrick as Bella's busybody friend, Jessica. Questionable casting of some of Bella's other classmates may rile purists, though Hardwicke and Rosenberg generate some laughs from the high school setting. Pic duly introduces Jacob (Taylor Lautner), a Native American youth who looks to rival Edward for Bella's affections in future outings.
In an unwise departure from the book, pic dispels rather than increases the tension by showing random vampire attacks by a sinister trio (Cam Gigandet, Rachelle Lefevre, Edi Gathegi), headed toward a showdown with Edward and his brood. Chase-thriller endgame seems to sputter to a halt when it's barely begun.
Visual effects, used to convey the vampires' superhuman strength, agility and resistance to gravity, are a mixed bag. Shot in moody, washed-out tones by Hardwicke's regular lenser, Elliot Davis, pic makes the most of its Oregon locations .

Harry basks in the TWILIGHT... it is so cool to be in love
A strange thing happened on my way to ridicule my wife's love for TWILIGHT... I kinda sorta fell a little in love too.
I'm a softy, I admit it. I love romance, be it silly or serious... momentary or eternal. I'm a sucker for stories about people that shouldn't be together that just... despite the order of the food chain, find a reason to fight their natural instincts and... well... get it on.
So sign me up for BetweenHisDiamondThighs.Com cuz I'm a fan of Catherine Hardwicke's TWILIGHT. That said, it's not anywhere near the best Vampire film of the year... that falls to LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, which is... all at once, more romantic and scarier and far better shot. But I like this film.
First off, if your spouse or significant other is dragging you to see TWILIGHT this weekend, you should know... flat out, it's crushingly romantic. I've seen the film twice now, yes – my wife has a problem, but genuinely, I like the film more than she does. She flat out despises Carter Burwell's 80's-esque score, and misses a few scenes that were her favorite from the novel, but overall... she does love the movie.
The second most important thing you should know about TWILIGHT is that it really isn't a VAMPIRE film. There are Vampires. It is a "I fell in love with the nicest Vampire" story – but at the end of the day, this is a ROMANCE movie. If you're filing it in a video store, it absolutely belongs in romances – the same way that SOMEWHERE IN TIME belongs in ROMANCE. Is it as great a romance as SOMEWHERE IN TIME? No, it's closer to Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and TV's LOIS & CLARK. Actually... that's not quite right either.
This is much closer to PRETTY IN PINK.
Bella is very much a girl in the Molly Ringwald brand. Nowhere near as eclectic or cool, but a girl that doesn't necessarily fit in with any of the groups. Kristen Stewart plays Bella as that awesome best friend... the girl that helps her girlfriends hooks up, helps her guy friends find their ideals, but she, herself... she's alone. She feels she's like her single father. Someone that feels like she's best alone. This is something that everyone that loves romance feels. At their core, they love romance, they love the idea of finding someone that can show them a world that they can only dream of from books and movies. But how likely is it that you'll ever find someone like that?
Edward? Well, honestly he's not just the Andrew McCarthy character – he has a bit of Jon Cryer's Duckie in him too. He's handsome in that precious way – that isn't he cute, pinch his cheeks kinda way. But as Robert Pattinson plays Edward... a character built to be a dangerously hot version of Mr Darcy... well, he's very much an all powerful dork. Robert may be the latest heartthrob to strike our unsuspecting world, but he's absolutely dweebishly handsome and awkward around Bella. He's fabulously handsome, every girl wants him – but he's like mercury – slipping through their fingers and a bit poisonous.
Now – you also need to know that the rules of VAMPIRES are completely thrown out the window. This is kinda like Anne Rice – where Stephenie Meyer just took what she liked about vampires – the bloodlust and sucking, and took away all their weaknesses. Sunlight, crosses, stakes in the heart, mirrors, cameras, holy water... that's all BUSTED as Adam and Jamie would say. Here – Vampires can subsist on a diet of fresh animal blood, but it just isn't satisfying. But it is better than killing a human life, something that their every instinct compels them to do. Their weakness – the thing they have to fight – is to KILL. That is the sadness of their existence. They're built to be everything that a human could want, but in turn – a human's blood is their driven core instinct. To not drink a human's blood would be like not watching DAILY SHOW & COLBERT Monday through Thursday. Just something nigh impossible to exist without.
I like this take on the story and upon vampires. Most of all – I like Bella and Edward. I love how awkward Edward is around her – and I love the mystery that is Edward to her. I like how I believe the kids in her school and I like the teacher. I like how Bella's parents are not horribly fucked up individuals, but just good parents that divorced. That all of this isn't over complicated. It's a very normal story of girl meets boy, boy is a vampire, boy that's cool.
Could it be better?
Yes. I was pretty much completely satisfied after the first viewing. I went in thinking that I would probably hate it – and have two to three weeks of my wife hating me. But I found the story disarming and characters genuinely fun to spend time with.
But my second viewing was at a special AUSTIN FILM SOCIETY screening – and director Catherine Hardwicke was there – and the audience made up of TWILIGHT hardcore fans, well after the movie was a Q&A moderated by Richard Linklater. During this Q&A – an audience member asked Catherine how the process of picking what to leave in and what to trim from the 400+ pages of the original novel... well, how did that work?
Well, in Catherine's answer she revealed a shallowness about the film that I didn't really catch while watching it. She talked about how she didn't want to make the film just "talking heads". As she said this, there was this smirk on Richard Linklater's face. And the thought hit me, "My god, I can't believe that Catherine Hardwicke is saying that Talking Heads and Romance is patently uncinematic while standing next to the director of BEFORE SUNRISE and BEFORE SUNSET!"
TWILIGHT is a very sweet and crushingly romantic film, but it's a lite romantic movie. I guarantee that fans of the book won't LOVE the movie like they did the book. The reason? Because Hardwicke and the producers of this film didn't trust in the conversations and the expressions of the characters thoughts. Sure, the movie is 2 hours long and to add in the substance of all those conversations. To do more than just the common cheap exchanging of glances and the hanging out in treetops and saving her from certain death... that takes real courage and real understanding of love.
But that's why TWILIGHT is simply a good Romantic film, whilst Linklater's BEFORE SUNSET and BEFORE SUNRISE are amongst the greatest Romantic films. Those TALKING HEAD scenes in CASABLANCA really killed it, didn't they?
The surprise of TWILIGHT though is it isn't vapid. There's an honest and real spark between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson – and the other actors all show a great deal of charisma as well. This is a very very strong cast. You will notice them in other films. And for many of them, this is where they started off.
As for me, I look forward to TWILIGHT 2: BREAK OUT THE FUR IN FRONT OF THE FIREPLACE.

Dir: Catherine Hardwicke. US. 2008. 121 mins.
Summit Entertainment is looking at its first blockbuster hit with the film version of Stephanie Meyer's bestselling novel Twilight, a highly-effective adaptation with an intoxicating blend of breathy romance and mild horror which will be must-see viewing for teenage girls. Faithful to the novel in almost every narrative detail, film-maker Catherine Hardwicke nevertheless infuses the film with its own visual personality courtesy of the atmospheric northeastern landscapes and the spot-on casting of her young lovers Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
Rated a family-friendly PG-13 in the US, the film has an inbuilt awareness from the success of Meyer's novels and a six-month marketing crescendo there which has generated enormous want-to-see among the powerful teen and pre-teen girl demographic. They will go to see it once, twice, three times, if only to swoon and re-swoon at Pattinson.
Summit has nurtured this project from the start and its domestic arm as well as its international output partners are counting on a home run after the poor performance of Never Back Down and Sex Drive. The extent of the film's success is the question here. Doubtless it will work well enough to ensure a greenlight for the sequel New Moon, but whether it can achieve super-grosses is dependent on crossover to teenage boys and adults. It is not a sure thing that teenage boys will be drawn to the film, which is short on action and blood and high on unabashed girly love. Adults, either accompanying their daughters or going on their own, might be more swayed by the film's unusual romance and stylish mise-en-scene.
As the Harry Potter producers know all too well, the challenge with adapting literary properties beloved by a whole generation of kids is that they might never meet the expectations of the fans. Twilight and its sequels are one of those rare phenomena, having sold 17 million copies worldwide.
The always-dependable Hardwicke and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg didn't attempt to tinker with Meyer's story or characters, instead focusing on how every plot twist and character could be accommodated within a two-hour framework without sacrificing narrative momentum or suspense. It was the right tactic and fans will be satisfied by the realisation of the novel's characters and mythology.
Best of all is the casting. Stewart, a fine young actress who played Jodie Foster's daughter in Panic Room, Robert De Niro's daughter in What Just Happened? and Emile Hirsch's girlfriend in Into The Wild, sinks her non-vampire teeth into her first lead role of Bella with confidence. Pattinson, the young British actor who found his first fans playing the doomed Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter IV, is the perfect Edward. Both boyishly handsome and broodingly masculine, he kicks Orlando Bloom out of the frame as the new number one pinup for teenage girls.
But Hardwicke and company have also filled each supporting role with careful consideration for the fanbase and possible sequels. From Peter Facinelli as the head of the Cullen clan to Nikki Reed as the aggressive Rosalie Cullen to Billy Burke as Bella's father Charlie to Taylor Lautner as the sweet native American Jacob and Cam Gigandet as the dangerous nomad vampire James, the actors are extremely well-cast.
The plot is as Meyer wrote it: 17-year-old Bella Swan (Stewart) leaves Phoenix and arrives in the grey, rainswept town of Forks, Washington, to live for a while with her father (Burke) while her mother travels with her new husband. She settles into Forks with as much enthusiasm as she can muster, falling in with new friends at the local high school.
But she also becomes enamoured of Edward Cullen, a handsome classmate who keeps apart from the others with his photogenic adopted brothers and sisters. After initial hostility from Edward, who is her reluctant partner in biology class, she becomes friendly with him. But when he saves her life by pushing a ten-tonne truck out of her way, she begins to suspect he is not like the other boys.
The soundtrack of songs, already number one in the US, is another smart move by the producers. Supervised by the celebrated Alexandra Patsavas, who famously brought youth-oriented pop tracks to TV series like The OC, Grey's Anatomy and Gossip Girl, the soundtrack features Muse, Radiohead and Linkin Park and is the perfectly hip, teen-cool accompaniment to the story. After all, Twilight is not too distant a cousin to Gossip Girl and The OC. It is the same package of teen sexuality, high school intrigue and beautiful youngsters, only with a few fangs thrown in for novelty value.

As of 12 noon Wednesday in the US, nearly 600 of the Thursday midnight show sessions of tween vampire romance adaptation "Twilight" have sold out and around 2,000 screenings on the first weekend have already been fully sold.
In the eight-year history of online ticket seller Fandango, the film has become the seventh highest 'advance ticket seller' in the company's history. With more early ticket sales than any film since "The Dark Knight", many have begun to speculate about the opening weekend figure - and of course the drop-off.
With a largely female teenage fanbase, and older women coming in a close second, there's talk the film could see a pattern of success similar to the "Sex and the City" movie earlier this year which had an enormous opening day, stellar opening weekend, and then plummeted in subsequent weeks but still managed to be one of the biggest earners of the season.
Reviews are officially embargoed til later tonight but already some have slipped through with their opinions. Various notable critics have panned the film, but in almost every case the critics have admitted that for the target audience that sat in on the screenings with them - the film hit its mark.

Girl Power Powers Twilight to $70.6 Mil Weekend
A female-dominated audience drove Twilight's opening weekend to among the biggest in Hollywood history: a $70.6 million Friday-Sunday gross, per studio estimate.
"This is a game-changer. This is an industry-changing performance," Exhibitor Relations analyst Jeff Bock said today. "...With the success of Sex and the City, and Mamma Mia!, we've awoken a sleeping giant at the box office."
Exit polling showed 75 percent of Twilight's audience was female. Box-office stats show the movie is the biggest opener for a movie directed by a woman (Catherine Hardwicke).
The vampire romance also played well to the young—overall, 55 percent of ticketbuyers were under age 25.

Summit greenlights New Moon after spectacular Twilight opening
Jeremy Kay in Los Angeles
23 Nov 2008 16:00
Buoyed by spectacular opening day results for Twilight, Summit Entertainment has taken the widely anticipated step of greenlighting the sequel New Moon.
The vampire romance is estimated to have grossed $35.7m on Friday, an astonishing amount driven by record pre-sales. Approximately $7m of that amount comes from Thursday midnight screenings.
Heading into the weekend Twilight was expected to gross in the $60m region, however pundits have revised that amount to $75m based on first day results.
"I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment." Stephenie Meyer said. "I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on New Moon."
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson star in Twilight as a high school girl and a vampire who fall in love.

Sada se zahvaljujući Belli i Buffy povampirila. Možda.
The monster success of girly vampire pic Twilight at the US Box office last weekend could kick open the door for a big-screen return of Joss Whedon's much-loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rumours are circulating in Hollywood that Whedon has a feature-film script based on his hit TV series ready to roll as soon as a studio is prepared to commit. The Buffy concept was first unveiled as a movie in 1992 with long-forgotten Kristy Swanson in the title role.
Mada, iskreno sumnjam. Nema Whedon vremena za to.

"Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are set to net a cool $12 million dollars each for the just-announced sequel "New Moon" reports The Chicago Sun-Times.
To give you an idea of comparison, the pair were each paid just $2 million for the first film which came in at a total budget of $37 million.
The story of 'New Moon' though is a much larger one which includes sojourns to both Alaska and Italy, along with the introduction of werewolves into the franchise.
Pattinson has previously stated that 'Moon' ranks as his favorite of the four-book series.

Summit Entertainment has wasted no time moving ahead with the next installment in Stephenie Meyer's bestselling "Twilight" series, "New Moon." But in an unusual move after the successful launch of a franchise that has already generated $138.6 million, the upstart distrib is not bringing director Catherine Hardwicke back to direct the picture. Summit and Hardwicke cite Summit's wish to rush the movie into production as one reason for their split. Summit wants to release the picture, which will demand substantial CGI work, by the end of 2009 or the start of 2010. A former production designer, Hardwicke wanted more prep time.
"Twilight" scripter Melissa Rosenberg handed in a draft of "New Moon" the weekend that "Twilight" opened. Hardwicke wanted more time to work on it; Summit announced it was going ahead with "New Moon" on November 22, with no director attached. Negotiations lasted two weeks before Hardwicke formally passed on the film Saturday.
As word spread through Hollywood agencies that the talks might not result in Hardwicke's return, reports surfaced that Summit was checking out other directors for the "Twilight" franchise while they insisted they were still negotiating with Hardwicke, who delivered the biggest opening weekend ever for a woman. (CAA denies that they were soliciting other directors.) The movie is still going strong as the director and cast promote it overseas; it came in second this weekend with $13.2 million, grossing a total $138.6 million.
The problem that stalled negotiations was that Hardwicke had strong opinions about what to do with the next installment, and so did Summit. The debate was how to focus the adaptation of the second book, which deals more with giant werewolves than vampires, as well as the long depression of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), after her vampire lover (Rob Pattinson) leaves her. One issue was how to get more of teen heartthrob Pattinson into the film. (Rosenberg has figured out a device to achieve this.) But Hardwicke, burned out from her "Twilight" labors, simply wasn't willing to jam this movie with a script that still needed months of development.
"I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct 'New Moon,'" said Hardwicke. "Directing 'Twilight' has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel -- it is a great story."
"Catherine did an incredible job in helping us to launch the 'Twilight' franchise, and we thank her for all of her efforts and we very much hope to work with her on future Summit projects," said Summit production prexy Erik Feig. "We as a studio have a mandate to bring the next installment in the franchise to the big screen in a timely fashion so that fans can get more of Edward, Bella and all of the characters that Stephenie Meyer has created. We are able to pursue an aggressive time frame as we have the luxury of only adapting the novels into screenplays as opposed to having to create a storyline from scratch."
Hardwicke has other balls in the air, including two projects in the works with Groundswell Entertainment's Michael London, who produced "Thirteen."
Deadline Hollywood Daily reports:
"The word from inside Summit is that Hardwicke, the acclaimed Thirteen director, "was 'difficult' and 'irrational' during the making of Twilight," one insider explains to me. "That doesn't mean anything when you're talking about a filmmaker because they all are, but still..." (Indeed, Joe Roth and Sony kept saying those things about Julie Taymor on Across The Universe. Yet she made a cult classic and is now directing Marvel/Sony's Spider-Man for Broadway.) From another of my sources, "Summit didn't like her. They're saying the DP [director of photography] Elliot Davis is the one responsible for the film's sumptuous visual look, that the editor Nancy Richardson had to save the film in post-production, and Summit thought Hardwicke's [CAA] agent Beth Swofford was alternately ineffectual and hysterical [when it came to controlling her client]."
In fact, I'm told that the studio has even had quiet talks with other CAA directors for the last week. "And Swofford never told Hardwicke about that and that she was about to get kicked to the gutter," an insider tells me. "To add insult to injury, Hardwicke can now look forward to being grilled by the press for days on end, in front of the cast, about why she's getting shit-canned."
If anything, Hardwicke saved the movie from its trite plot and ridiculously cheap budget. Where's the love?
Nevidljivi javlja:
OTKAZAN RIMEJK VAMPIRSKOG VESTERN KLASIKA "NEAR DARK"
Don't believe everything you hear about Twilight and its sequels. Things are heating up already on the third installment, Eclipse. They haven't even started the second one yet, New Moon. When you've got a robust franchise, filmmakers are eager to get on board. Word is, the Spanish director of The Orphanage, Juan Antonio Bayona, and 3:10 to Yuma helmer James Mangold are both circling the project, but Summit insists that no meetings are scheduled as yet. Both would be strong choices.
As to the last two unfilled roles in New Moon, vampires Jane and Aro, no offers have yet gone out, despite what you may have read. And the role of Leah Clearwater isn't being filled, because according to writer Melissa Rosenberg, she isn't in the script!

First came the Vanessa Hudgens rumors that were quickly shot down, now the latest dubious casting gossip is from E! Online who reports that Dakota Fanning ("Coarline," "Push") is in talks to play the vampire Jane in the upcoming "Twilight" sequel "New Moon" .
In Stephenie Meyer's novels, Jane is a member of the Volturi - an Italian vampire coven treated like royalty who essentially act as lethal enforcers to ensure the existence of vampires isn't exposed to humanity. Jane's special power is the ability to create illusions of pain.
Chris Weitz will direct the sequel which is scheduled to begin filming at the end of March with some filming to take place in Italy.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Stephen King's opinion may drive a stake through the heart of "Twilight" author, Stephenie Meyer.
In an interview with USA Weekend, the bestselling author compared Meyer with J.K. Rowling , the author of the Harry Potter series.
VIEW THE PHOTOS: Robert Pattinson- Hollywood's Hottest Vampire!
According to Stephen, "Both Rowling and Meyer, they're speaking directly to young people... The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good."
Meeooww!

While Stephen may not be a fan of Stephenie's writing, he understands the appeal of the series.
"People are attracted by the stories, by the pace and in the case of Stephenie Meyer, it's very clear that she's writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books. It's exciting and it's thrilling and it's not particularly threatening because it's not overtly sexual."
He further explains, "A lot of the physical side of it is conveyed in things like the vampire will touch her forearm or run a hand over skin, and she just flushes all hot and cold. And for girls, that's a shorthand for all the feelings that they're not ready to deal with yet."
King je u pravu.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – "Twilight" took moviegoers on a magical trip into the world of vampires, but director Catherine Hardwicke will pierce the film's fantasy bubble in a new book detailing how it was made.
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, the division of Hachette Book Group, will release "Twilight: Director's Notebook" on March 17, the company said on Wednesday.
The book is timed to take advantage of the hype surrounding the vampire romance movie as its DVD comes out on March 21.
In the book, Hardwicke reveals details about casting, location scouting, wardrobe and her favorite scenes. The book also has behind-the-scenes photos and storyboard sketches, and is designed to replicate the director's own personal notebook she kept on set.
Hardwicke has been replaced as director of the "Twilight" sequel "New Moon," which is due out November 20, from director Chris Weitz, who made fantasy "The Golden Compass" in 2007.
Independent studio Summit Entertainment took the film industry by surprise with its runaway success on "Twilight," which has made $341.2 million worldwide since its November 21 release, according to tracking firm Box Office Mojo.
The movie is based on a series of "Twilight" books popular with girls and young women from author Stephenie Meyer.
Little, Brown Books said that it will print 500,000 copies of "Twilight: Director's Notebook" on first printing.

Njemu smo prije četiri dana uputili mail, no odgovor do zaključenja teksta nismo dobili.

CW looks to be trying to cash in on the trend with the struggling network has picked up a pilot based on L.J. Smith's "Vampire Diaries" book series according to Variety.
Originally published in 1993, "Vampire Diaries" revolves around a young woman whose torn between two vampire brothers. The brothers -- one good, one evil -- are battling for her soul, and the souls of her pals, family and the small town where they live.
'Diaries' book producer Alloy Entertainment also publishes the book series which the network's talked about "Gossip Girl" show is based on.
Kevin Williamson ("Scream," "Dawon's Creek") and Julie Plec ("Kyle XY") will executive produce and write.
LOS ANGELES – "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke says she walked away from the payday of a lifetime to direct the sequel "New Moon" because she didn't want to make the movie under the deadline and budget constraints that would have been placed on her.
Summit executives called to offer her "more money than I or anyone in my family has ever seen," she said, but they added that she'd have to shoot "New Moon" under a tight deadline and modest budget.
Hardwicke turned them down.
"I was devastated," she says now. "I really did feel a strong connection to the people around the world that liked the movie — and to Stephenie and the actors. But I just didn't think I could make a good movie under those circumstances."
Summit Entertainment had no comment on the report, spokesman Paul Pflug said.
Drew Barrymore is in the running to direct Summit Entertainment's "The Twilight Saga's Eclipse", the third film of the series based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling book series says Entertainment Weekly.
Chris Weitz is helming the first sequel "The Twilight Saga's New Moon", but the studio opting for Barrymore is likely so that the production can stick to the rapid release schedule it has planned.
Barrymore just wrapped her feature directorial debut "Whip It!". "New Moon" is scheduled to open November 20th 2009 while "Eclipse" will hit on June 30th 2010.
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. When we post a story there's an option to check a genre. When filing this story I checked "Cult." The TWILIGHT cult astounds me. I don't get it at all... and I think Kristen Stewart is adorable, so I should have loved the movie, but it was just horrible.
I won't pass full judgment. I haven't read Stephanie Meyer's books, but I get the gist and have had too many people I respect warn me off of them. But I can judge the movie. I did watch it. And I don't get it.
Catherine Hardwicke completely dropped the ball... that 360 spin around Edward and Bella that stops their conversation cold? Are you serious? The writing was horrible, the characters Frankensteined from other, better, material and the love story tried to come off as romantic, but I never bought it... it was too creepy (not in a good way) and Stewart just looked bored. It's becoming a huge cliche now, but it's true... LET THE RIGHT ONE IN was so much better at taking these story elements and presenting them in a whole new way.
So, I don't know what to think of the news that began as whispers a while ago and have now solidified into a high probability that we'll see Juan Antonio Bayona helm the third flick in the Twilight "Saga." JA Bayona directed the fantastic THE ORPHANAGE, so that's where the rub comes in. I think he's a very gifted director with a great eye for film, but I don't really care much about this series. He could very well bring the films up a few notches, much like Alfonso Cuaron did with the HARRY POTTER films (let me be clear that I thought the first two Potter films, as flawed as they were, were a thousand times better than Twilight)... and it might also give him the power to get his own original films off the ground. So, I unenthusiastically support this. He might give me a Twilight film I won't be ashamed of myself for viewing and could position himself to get some real great projects going.
Please don't send me hate mail, Twilight fans. I don't get it, but I try not to begrudge other fanbases if I can help it. It's not for me. I just thought the filmmaking on the first movie was pretty horrible.
What do you folks think?
Catherine Hardwicke ("Twilight," "Thirteen") is in talks to develop and direct a film adaptation of James Patterson's young-adult fantasy series "Maximum Ride" for Sony Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
The five-volume series chronicles six teens, known as the Flock, who are genetically altered so that they are part human and part bird.
Learning to fly, they escape the laboratory where they have been housed and are pursued by a pack of creatures called the Erasers that are part human and part wolf.
Don Payne ("Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer") is writing a screenplay. Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul are will produce.
Los Angeles, CA April 22, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that David Slade has been hired to direct THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio's TWILIGHT film franchise based on the Stephenie Meyer's blockbuster book series, will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. The announcement was made by Erik Feig, Summit's President of Production.
Meyer stated, "I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing ECLIPSE. He's a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we've been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I'm so happy that ECLIPSE will be carrying on with that tradition."
Feig said, "Stephenie Meyer's ECLIPSE is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the ECLIPSE he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010."
Filmmaker Slade came to prominence as a director for his work on 2006's engrossing film HARD CANDY starring Academy Award® Nominated actress Ellen Page as well as directing 2007's genre hit 30 DAYS OF NIGHT which opened to number one at the box office its first weekend of release.
In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.
Slade is represented by William Morris Agency.
Well, if this doesn't get the girls (and some of you boys out there) all afluttered and hopping around waiting for November 20 for "New Moon" to open, then I don't know what will. USAToday has your first look at the four actors who will be playing members of "New Moon's" Native American werewolves, aka The Wolf Pack. They are Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Bronson Pelletier, and they will be joining a newly beefed up Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black in the "Twilight" sequel.

Catherine Hardwicke has added another project to her growing stack.
The "Twilight" helmer is signing on to Appian Way's "The Girl With the Red Riding Hood."
Werewolf movie, written by David Johnson, is a gothic retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood story, with a teenage love triangle at its center.
Hardwicke has several other development projects on simmer around town, including "Hamlet" at Overture and "If I Stay" at Summit, plus "21 Jump Street" and "Maximum Ride" at Sony.
"Red" is set up at Warner Bros., where Appian Way has a first-look deal.
A tek njegova "gluma" u "emotivnim" scenama, kad svoje "emocije" naglašava dramskom pauzom nakon svake proklete riječi - "The... hardest... thing... for... me... was..." itd.

Pa sledeci deo rezhira rezhiser 30 Days of Night!
Summit Entertainment has confirmed speculation that Bill Condon will direct The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.
Melissa Rosenberg is currently adapting the fourth novel in Meyer's supernatural series and Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner return to their starring roles. Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Meyer will produce.
Condon's credits include Dreamgirls, Kinsey, and Gods And Monsters.
The third film in the franchise, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is scheduled to open on June 30.
Filmmaker Bill Condon has posted a note on the official Facebook page for Summit's "The Twilight Saga" where he discusses his motivation behind taking the job and how he's already immersed himself in the books and films. Here's the note in full:
"Greetings Twihards, Twifans, Twilight Moms, Team Edward, Team Jacob and Team Switzerland,
I just want to say hello to all of you and let you know that I'm stoked to be getting underway on the adventure of making "Breaking Dawn". As you've probably heard, I've been given a very warm welcome by Stephenie and Team Summit - who are super-focused, as you know, on getting these movies right.
I'm pretty busy bringing myself up to speed on what you already know by heart: I've read "Breaking Dawn" twice, rewatched Catherine's and Chris's movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine's notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz's companion books, and even Volume 1 of the graphic novel here on my desk - a corner of my office is starting to look like Hot Topic. I realize that this barely qualifies me for "newborn" status in the universe you've been living inside for a few years now, but a guy's gotta start somewhere.
Like many of you, I've always been slightly obsessed with vampires, dating back to the prime-time series "Dark Shadows", which I followed avidly as a kid. But that alone hadn't been enough to get me interested in making a vampire movie, even though my early screenwriting and directing efforts grew out of a great love for horror movies and thrillers. Since making "Gods and Monsters" thirteen years ago, however, I've been yearning for a return to a story with Gothic overtones.
The wonderful world that Stephenie has created has obviously struck a chord with you, and I don't think it's difficult to see why. For me, her characters are simultaneously timeless, yet very modern. Rooted in a beautiful, real landscape with a great sense of place, Bella, Edward, Jacob, and the rest of the Forks/La Push menagerie, experience emotions that are primal, and universal: desire, despair, jealousy - and it all comes to fruition in "Breaking Dawn". This is a final chapter in the best sense; not just wide in scope and scale, but emotionally charged and intense throughout.
I'm a huge admirer of the already-iconic Kristen, Robert, and Taylor, and wanted to be the one to work with them as they face the challenges of bringing your beloved characters to the end of their journeys. Really, what could be more fun than that?"
QuoteReally, what could be more fun than that?
Zanimljivo, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse na momente podseća na 30 Days of Night.
To malo osvežava priču.
Uglavnom: 5/10...

Cak i Harvesteru!!!

The Twilight pregnancy scene is giving audience members seizures Breaking Dawn's lovey-dovey treacle may make you queasy, but some unlucky theatergoers are discovering that it can actually give you a seizure.
ABC (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertainment/2011/11/twilight-breaking-dawn-scene-allegedly-causing-seizures/) reports that the flashing lights of the birthing sequence are triggering cases of photosensitive epilepsy. Century-old vampire marrying a dour teenager, I choose you (http://edition.cnn.com/WORLD/9712/17/japan.cartoon/):
The in-theater seizures, also known as photosensitive epilepsy, are thought to be a result of the bright flashing of red, black and white during the film's nerve-wracking scene.
Brandon Gephart and Kelly Bauman had gone to see "Breaking Dawn: Part One" last Friday when Gephart began "convulsing, snorting, [and] trying to breathe," according to Bauman. He doesn't remember anything, he says, but soon awoke on the theater floor and was taken out by paramedics. The remainder of the screening was cancelled.
Twilight seizures, they're the next
Avatar depression (http://articles.cnn.com/2010-01-11/entertainment/avatar.movie.blues_1_pandora-depressed-posts?_s=PM:SHOWBIZ). As a side note, the dangers of the
Breaking Dawn birthing sequence were reported earlier this week by famed comic illustrator Jim Lee, who tweeted (https://twitter.com/#%21/JimLee/status/139592777880186880), "Had to step out of Breaking Dawn...our 11 year old son literally threw up during the birthing scene." Lee claims that this was a physiological reaction to the events onscreen (https://twitter.com/#%21/JimLee/status/139594336865234944) ("He said the crunching noises during birth got to him") but that incident just sounds like your average preteen's protest to being dragged to a
Twilight film.
Hat tip to Mavis!

Uuuu.... Jadni Bil Kondon.
Gledao i ja "Praskozorje" sinoć, nema tog flešovanja pri porođaju.
Takođe, nisam zaspao, lepo sam se ismejao, a posle sam i jeo.
Što se filma tiče,
http://www.ruthlessreviews.com/12310/twilight-saga-breaking-dawn-part-1/ (http://www.ruthlessreviews.com/12310/twilight-saga-breaking-dawn-part-1/)
je sve lepo rekao:
QuoteMake no mistakes though; this is a good movie, a great one in fact. It accomplishes everything it sets out to. As a man, I don't get it, and as a film critic, I find it offensive, but I've seen its impact on society to fully appreciate how effective it is.
i takođe:
Quote
If Twilight is considered cinema, then Busty Nurses 9 is too. Sure both happen on screen, but the screen is secondary. It's your own reaction you crave.
...
Jacob gets shirtless in less than ninety seconds in. It took Ava Devine four long minutes to lose her top in Naughty Teachers 14. Pathetic!
...
The theater erupted into the sound of labias slapping together in applause.
itd
