SYNOPSIS:
THE WARD is an intense psychological thriller set in a mental institution where a young woman, Kristen is haunted by a mysterious and deadly ghost. As danger creeps closer, she comes to realize that this ghost might be darker than she could have imagined.
Kristen, early 20's wakes to find herself bruised, cut, drugged and held against her will in a remote ward of Chamberlain Psychiatric Hospital . She is completely disorientated, with no idea why she was brought this place and no memory of her life.
The other patients in the ward, four equally troubled girls, offer no answers and Kristen quickly realises things are not as they seem. The air is heavy with secrets and at night, when the hospital is dark and foreboding, she hears strange and disturbing sounds. It appears they are not alone.
One by one the girls disappear and Kristen must find a way out of this hellish place before the ghost comes for her too. As she struggles to escape, she will uncover a truth far more dangerous and horrifying than anyone could have imagined.

Otkad si ti postao tako kritičan? :)
Ma nisam ja kritičan, ja sam samo skeptičan.
A oćel JC i kompozirati?
John is a legend and rightfully so. I love that I got to work with him. For someone who enjoys making horror films as much as I do, that was an amazing opportunity, and when I met with him for the first time a year and a half ago, I knew I was going to be in really good hands. I was involved with my character so much, and shocked at how open to creative collaboration he was. I felt like he and I made a really good team, that he's a fantastic filmmaker and I could learn from him. And I really learned a lot. My character is arrested and thrown into an institution in the '60s. She meets all of these other characters and things start happening in the institution. You have to second-guess your main character, me, because she is in a mental institution. There are a lot of things that are coming in and out of the story and you don't know what to think. It's pretty intense. The film's in post-production and it will hopefully honor the script, but it was fantastic and a thrilling story. "
Koliko sam ja shvatio snimanje je završeno nedavno.

Men' se to ljudi ćini ko poslastica... mljac-mljac....

Veoma noirish. A i okrepljujuće politički nekorektno.

Ako dodamo onih 50% kojih donose naocare, dobijamo jednog zaista supersamouverenog Karpentera!
Njegove bravure iznjedre širok spektar atmosfera, pretežno nategnutih, sažetih u linearnu, a opet nepredvidljivu radnju. Uz odabranu muzičku pratnju, Karpentrova dela se zaokružuju do početka savršensva.
Svakako da sa nestrpljenjem očekujem dati film.
Valjda će se potvrditi ono "bez starca, nema udarca"... Držim fige.
Film je prikazan: krenuli su rivjui. Evo nekih random delića:::
Significantly better than either Vampires or Ghosts of Mars - his previous two features, now nearly a decade and slightly more than a decade old - The Ward may fall significantly short of his peak period work but it certainly shows a reversal of the downward trend of his last several features and demonstrates that there may some life in these bones yet.
Though not Carpenter's best work by a considerable margin, and though it had a tendency to recycle ideas from better films rather than really build its own, The Ward is still an effective and entertaining film. With any luck this return to feature films after nearly a decade long layoff will prove to be a warm up to even bigger and better things in the future.
The movie works fine as a direct-to-dvd horror film, but will probably be judged harshly against Carpenter's acclaimed past efforts. I'm trying not to do that, although the reason I decided to screen the film was because of Carpenter's involvement. I think almost everyone will agree this is not on par with his previous filmography, even his subpar 90's work.
Carpenter proves he is still the master of shock, and knows exactly how to manipulate an audience for "one good scare". There are plenty of chair jumper moments, and he creates a great environment inside the mental ward for ratcheting up the tension. Much like "The Fog" (the original – not that remake crap) this is a ghost that doesn't just say "boo", but grabs the nearest sharp instrument and physically murders her victims. While this film is not as good as "The Fog", I will definitely say that it has some of the strongest performances of any Carpenter film. The actors are outstanding. Amber Heard, in particular, is incredible as Kristen, and it is easy to see why "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane". She is an excellent actor who carries the film with the support of the rest of the cast.
Tight as a drum and plenty of fun, John Carpenter's first film in nine years is hardly a groundbreaker, but when the execution is this expert, why complain? Consciously old-fashioned in its approach, The Ward skilfully delivers exactly what one would imagine from a horror movie about five comely young women in a mental institution trying to outlast a murderous ghoul who haunts the hallways.
THR kaže:
John Carpenter's The Ward -- Film Review
By Michael Rechtshaffen, September 15, 2010 04:54 ET
"John Carpenter's The Ward"
Bottom Line: An understated if unremarkable return to form for the veteran shockmeister.
TORONTO -- After nearly a decade away from the big screen (since 2001's "Ghosts of Mars," to be precise), versatile genre director John Carpenter returns with a spare, atmospheric supernatural thriller that has been stripped of the filmmaker's later excesses.
While by no means a masterpiece of the form, "John Carpenter's The Ward" is an economical period piece that still effectively demonstrates what a skilled technician can accomplish in a single location (an imposing, creaky psychiatric hospital) with a compact cast (including Amber Heard and Jared Harris) and sturdy old-school effects (by Gregory Nicotero and Howard Berger).
This shoestring "Shutter Island" should have no difficulty attracting the attention of domestic and international distributors -- it's already attached to Alliance Films for the Canadian market and opens next month in the Netherlands -- that can count on Carpenter's loyal fan base to welcome him back.
Set during the 1960s, the film centers on the arrival of Kirsten, a distraught, disoriented young woman (Heard), who is thrown in a foreboding mental institution (played by the still-operational, remote Eastern Washington State Mental Hospital, formerly Eastern Washington State Hospital for the Insane), after setting fire to an old farmhouse.
She shares a ward with four other disturbed young females, including the cold, confident Sarah (Danielle Panabaker), the sweet-natured Iris (Lyndsy Fonseca), the outcast Emily (Mamie Gummer) and the childlike Zoey (Laura-Leigh).
Oh, and there's one more "patient" roaming the dark corridors of North Bend Psychiatric Hospital: the ghastly, ghostly Alice (Mika Boorem), who appears hellbent on systematically cutting back the patient population.
Although shot in color, Carpenter's film clearly is paying homage to the distinctly '60s style of Samuel Fuller's black-and-white classic "Shock Corridor" while incorporating his own trademark scare tactics, which always relied more on camera movement and editing than buckets of blood.
He probably does everything he can to visually boost the trick script by Michael Rasmussen and Shawn Rasmussen, but despite its big end reveal, it's neither unique nor clever enough to be memorable.
His spirited young female cast serves the picture well, though some, including Heard, convincingly look the part in their sassy '60s clothing -- courtesy of costume designer Lisa Caryl -- but sound tellingly contemporary.
Harris, meanwhile, carries the right amount of authority as Heard's seemingly indifferent therapist, D. Stringer.
Na ovo sam sasvim slučajno naleteo. Carpenter i Debra Hill... Once upon a time...

deluje veoma zanimljivo :)
Ovo deluje kao Carpenterov SHUTTER ISLAND. :) Dakle, Asylumov SHUTTER ISLAND.
Peva pesmu crnog labuda. :) Od Jašara Aronofskog. :)

Hahaha, D. to the rescue! :!:
