Nadam se da netko ovdje ako nije gledao film, a onda barem čitao Gogoljevu pripovetku, tako da shvati razlog mog oduševljenja:

Kratak sadržaj: Priča o čudnoj ljubavi između mladog bogoslova i lepe kćerke moćnog feudalca. Posle devojčine tajanstvene smrti, bogoslov je pozvan da prema njenoj želji, u seoskoj crkvi tri noći čita molitve kraj njenog odra. Strašne priče o pokojnici, o njenoj grešnoj vezi sa ocem i njenim orgijama, ne mogu da ugase ljubav mladog bogoslova. Namučena grešnom vezom sa ocem, ispunjena mržnjom, ona mrtva ne prestaje da se sveti muškom rodu. Njena žrtva postaće i nedužni, zaljubljeni bogoslov.

Evil Spirit: VIY

Inspired by Nikolai Gogol's horror short story "VIY" and directed by "Epitaph" writer Park Jin-sung.

Plot

Chapter 1: A strange woman

A young film director 'P', trying to make a film based on a short story <VIY> by Nikolai Gogol, meets a mysterious actress in an audition. Her overwhelming talent however, being obvious to everyone including 'P' himself, increasingly gets on his nerves in an ominous way.

Chapter 2: VIY

A young priest is ordered to preside over the wake of witch in a small old wooden church of a remote village. This means spending three nights alone with the corpse with only his faith to protect him.

Chapter 3: A curtain call

A blind musician Henri PARK meets a group of marionette artists, preparing a play based on <VIY>. Working with them as a Music Director, he is happy for the first time in his life as an artist. His suspicious roommate follows him one night, just to find out that Henri is playing the piano for ghosts in an abandoned church.

Newcomer Park Jin-sung displays tremendous audacity in appropriating one of the most celebrated works in Russian literature. In fact, some rigid disciples of Gogol's may well find Park's film insulting, even blasphemous. They needn't fret—EVIL SPIRIT: VIY doesn't pretend to be a faithful repetition of the tale, but nonetheless captures its spirit perfectly with an engrossing triptych of tales that are distinct in form but united thematically. Park delivers a rarity in horror cinema, a film in which the artistic process is revealed and brought to the fore—which hardly diminishes the fear the film instills. There's a hint of Lars Von Trier in the film's conceit, which is to present the story of Viy three times in different settings. The excellent cast returns for each of the three acts to portray alternate versions of the same characters. An uncanny cross between the art film and J-horror, EVIL SPIRIT: VIY frightens and fascinates. Let yourself be engulfed by this intense and unpredictable cinematic experience offering only one certainty—that you'll see nothing else like it this year. Gogol himself would have approved!
