The movie-maker behind cult horror classic 'The Blair Witch Project'
has died in a plane crash. Neal Fredericks, 35, had been filming
aerial shots for new film 'Cross Bones ' when the jet he was
travelling in suddenly plunged into sea west of Florida on Saturday
(14.08.04). Also involved in the crash were the pilot, two colleagues
and film director Daniel Zirilli, who all survived the accident and
were rescued soon after. According to Zirilli, Fredericks was dragged
down with the wreckage after he was unable to free himself from a
safety harness before the plane was submerged in water. A team of US
Army Special Forces divers recovered the body of the cinematographer
inside the submerged plane about 70 miles west of Key West, Florida.
Fredericks' agent, Charles Lenoff, said of the accident: "It's tragic.
Neal was unassuming and kind." Fredericks shot to fame in 1999 after
the low budget horror film became a worldwide hit. The film, shot in
Maryland, received critical acclaim for its use of hand-held cameras
and realism and cost virtually nothing to make, but grossed more than
$240 million at the box office.

Nil Frederiks je bio kamerman koji je snimao film. Sad, da li možemo kamermana smatrati autorom filma? Teško, u rijetkim slučajevima. Ali s obzirom da je ovdje riječ o found footage-u i da kamera igra veliku ulogu, možemo mu progledati kroz prste i nazvati ga jednim od autora.
