Several weeks before "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" hits theatres, LEGO will release a batch of new toys based on the property.

Now photos of those upcoming sets have been leaked and reveal some of the big set pieces for the much anticipated release. Spoilers ahead folks:

The first reveals a river/jungle chase featuring rubber dinghys, Indy, Marion, alligators, snakes, tree watchposts and 4WD trucks.

The second has a tank with two giant horizontal circular saws for clearing jungle, some kind of Temple entrance, more soldiers and lots of tarantulas.

The third and big one shows the Temple of the Crystal Skull itself. The shot has lots of strange elements including alien skeletons, natives, and hints of the temple itself opening up to reveal something other-worldly.

In other Indy news, a new in-theatre cinema display has been snapped by a Jo Blo reader.

In short, this is the Indiana Movie that you were dreading. I remember seeing the two trailers and though I was excited to see the old man in action again, I was kind of worried that they seemed to be missing 'something'. That something was tension. During the whole of the movie, there was not a single moment that I thought our hero Mr. Jones (actually Colonel Jones as he was a hero in WWII now) was in any sort of peril or even significant inconvenience. In most cases, you were so many steps ahead of the characters that it was really just an arduous wait for them to get through it.

HERE WE GO WITH SOME SPOILERS!

Well, sadly the hopes of seeing Abner Ravenwood were unfounded. Though we do get to see the big Ark weilding warehouse again (it's Area 51 just incase you were unsure), the Ark is not the main object that they are there for (they do show it ofcourse; ya gots ta). LeBeef is ofcourse Indy's son. And other than quick references to Indy's Dad and Marcus (both dead) there isn't much to link with the the old stuff.

The storyline is basically about an alien corpse from some crash in some town call Roswell, that has magnetic properties that may or may not be the ultimate weapon in the future. The Nazi's are replaced by the Soviets who are obviously bad and want said weapon to do bad things with. The alien corpse prize is replaced with the crystal skull from the corpse (the actual skeleton of aliens is crystaline, and the Crystal Skull is literally an alien's remains) and chases and such ensue as they try to figure out how to 'Return' the skull to the Lost City of Gold and let it's supernatural abilities run rampant.

I found it funny that they mentioned the Lost City of Gold as it accidentally referenced the old Allen Quartermaine days (a crappy knockoff of Indy Movies incase you missed them) and this was very much similar in most respects. The big problem with the movie is that the traps or perilous moments are completely ass-inine and ridiculous. From a quicksand trap that Indy has time to yack on about, to being saved from said trap by LeBeef using a snake as a rope.

BTW, this snake is as crappy as a Mad TV prop when they don't CG it up, and that is another failing of this movie. The fake stuff doesn't mix with the real stuff at all. In the opening scenes where they are outside of the warehouse and Indy is pulled out of the trunk of the car (you'll recall the previews), they go from a real outdoors set to a fake indoors soundstage (pretending to be still outside). The jungle chase in the duck amphibious vehicles (I wonder if those will go in water at one point or not?...) looks like the whole jungle was made of plastic.

And then we go with the actual acting and characters. Well, everyone will be pleased to hear that LeBeef was horrible. He'd start crying about skeletal remains representing people that had died thousands of years ago (boohoo). Once Indy figures out Beef's heritage, he is non-stop complimentary towards every non-screwup thing he does (they would pause for mugs of adulation; just horrible). The Double Agent dude is comically horrible.

Marion was actually really great when she was first introduced (about half way) and she and Indy have some good banter. But after that five minutes, she was sporting a big muggy smile as they continued on their adventure and she was never scared, worried, or nervous, even with the stupid moments that she tries to help (duck in a tree; you will cringe when you see it...). Cate Blanchett wasn't overly horrible, but her characters' abilities of psychic prowess were never successfully used and she whenever she caught Indy she was never really intimidating or bad.

And then we have Indy himself. He has a few lines that work and a million that don't. He just never shows signs of worry or distress. Again, no Tension. He also has a weird tendancy to help the bad guys figure out the clues; never figured out why.

Anyway, I don't want to rant on forever, as it doesn't matter what I say, you will see this movie regardless. And even though it's not as bad as Allan Quartermane, it's definitely not a good Indy Movie. But for those of you that feel that the new Star Wars Movies robbed your childhood, expect some molestations from Uncles' George and Steven...

The cheering was loud when Indy went into the Cannes Film Festival screening, but the applause was considerably more subdued at the end. The consenus is that this movie is a formulaic snore, not worth the wait, & that The Last Crusade should've been exactly that.

Here are some of the critics' bon mots:

• "They should've left well enough alone. It looked like they were just going through the motions & no one had their heart in it"

• "...perfectly acceptable, polished & industrial, you knew exactly what you were going to see ...." (Don't you just love when you know everything you're going to see in a movie before you see it, & nothing surprises you? And don't you cherish raves like "perfectly acceptable"?)

• "overblown special-effects extravaganza."

• Spain's RNE radio critic said she was "bored to death."

• "He doesn't wear the fedora with quite the same jaunty angle, his bullwhip doesn't crack as smartly, & Harrison Ford looks all of his 65 years."

• "undeniably creaky"

• "should have been called 'Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men From Mars' "

• "time to entomb this elderly series once and for all."

It's not that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, exhumed after 19 years to be the fourth in this series, is bad, exactly. But it's undeniably creaky.

At its world premiere in Cannes, the audience cheered it in advance, even breaking into a wordless singing of its theme tune. But they ended up laughing at moments that weren't intentionally funny, and they seemed listless for long spells. Their response at the end was polite but muted.

What made the Indiana Jones series so fresh and amusing back in the 80s was its lightness of touch and its tongue-in-cheek, "ripping yarns" spirit.
That hasn't quite disappeared, but there's an awful lot of long-winded explanations of myths, legend and hieroglyphics in this story about Indy's mission to Peru for a crystal skull that's allegedly the fount of all knowledge.

Thus, between a series of stunt-driven set pieces, many of them implausibly linked, the film gets bogged down in wearying talk.

Director Steven Spielberg is usually a dab hand at maintaining pace and momentum, but the Crystal Skull contains dull passages.

Its story moves on a decade from where the last Indy film left off. Set in 1957, it starts with Elvis singing Hound Dog on the soundtrack.

There's a terrific effects-driven sequence in which an atomic bomb test destroys a life-size model town peopled by dummies. There's even an "I Like Ike" joke; what, you wonder, will the film's young target audience make of that?

The bad guys are no longer Nazis but Soviets — led by Cate Blanchett, with a Ukrainian accent and a Louise Brooks bob, camping it up like an early-vintage Bond villainess.

Shia Le Beouf plays a bratty young James Dean-style rebel on a motorcycle who joins the hunt and - big surprise - turns out to be not unrelated to Indy.

But oh dear, whose idea was it to bring long-forgotten Karen Allen back to the series? She enters the film late, and mostly stands around with nothing to do. Poor John Hurt has a thankless role as an archaeologist who undertook the mission before Indy and was reduced to a crazed wreck by what he learned.

Curiously, Spielberg has said he wanted the film to have an old-fashioned feel, with fewer computer-generated scenes, and longer shots than today's fast-cut, breathless action-adventures.

Well, The Crystal Skull is certainly old-fashioned, though not necessarily in a good way. And many of its striking scenes — notably a climax that briefly recalls Close Encounters of the Third Kind — could only be computer-generated.

With a cast clearly pre-fabricated to appeal to all ages, an overstuffed plot and an ageing action hero, it feels born of commercial calculation rather than a story that needed to be told.

There's a reason the previous Indy film 1989 was called The Last Crusade. Now it's really time to entomb this elderly series once and for all.

harijev sud je oduvek bio duboko sumnjivo upitno questionable, a u poslednje vreme je totalno nepouzdan i irelevantan: njegove svršotine po najimbecilnijim debilizmima me apsolutno ne zanimaju.

međutim, evo šta kaže malkice ozbiljniji i pouzdaniji varajeti:

By TODD MCCARTHY
One of the most eagerly and long-awaited series follow-ups in screen history delivers the goods -- not those of the still first-rate original, 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark," but those of its uneven two successors. "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" begins with an actual big bang, then gradually slides toward a ho-hum midsection before literally taking off for an uplifting finish. Nineteen years after their last adventure, director Steven Spielberg and star Harrison Ford have no trouble getting back in the groove with a story and style very much in keeping with what has made the series so perennially popular. Few films have ever had such a high mass audience must-see factor, spelling giant May 22 openings worldwide and a rambunctious B.O. life all the way into the eventual "Indiana Jones" DVD four-pack.

As has been well chronicled, Spielberg and exec producer George Lucas went through no end of writers and story concepts before plausibly updating the action precisely the same number of years as have elapsed since "Last Crusade," to 1957, smack dab in the middle of the Cold War. U.S. versus USSR dynamic spurs the dynamite opening action sequence, in which a convoy of Russian soldiers camouflaged in American army vehicles rolls into a remote desert nuclear testing base in search of a coveted object. Helping them in this effort will be their prisoner, Indiana Jones.

With an energy and enthusiasm bespeaking years of pent-up desire to get back to this sort of fun filmmaking, Spielberg sets the period spirit with a rock 'n' roll-fueled drag race and, with the characters' entry into the legendary Hangar 51, intimations of an other-worldly presence. As the aging issue is tossed off with a joke or two, the sixtysomething hero quickly proves that the passage of time will not be an inhibiting factor all these years later, as Indy trades smart remarks with the formidable Soviet officer Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett) before jumping into action the equal of any of the great setpieces the entire series has previously offered.

In Spalko, the film has a villain worthy not just of Indiana Jones but of a James Bond film, one who's madly intelligent as well as appreciative of an opponent she views as a near-equal. With her trim gray uniform, silver rapier, Louise Brooks haircut and piercing blue eyes, Blanchett provides a major treat whenever she's around.

...
OPŠIRNO PREPRIČAVANJE
...

ZAKLJUČAK:
For all the verbiage expended just to keep the story cranking forward, David Koepp's script accomplishes the two essentials: It keeps the structure on the straight and narrow, and is true to the character of Indiana Jones himself. Thanks to this and Ford's full-bodied performance, Indy comes through just as viewers remember him: crafty, capable, impatient, manly and red-blooded American. He looks great for his age, although it's never pretended he's younger than he is, and Mutt pays him the ultimate compliment when he says, "For an old man, you ain't bad in a fight."

Allen also looks real good and radiates the same winning smile and tomboyish enthusiasm that made her "Raiders" characterization so critical to the film's complete success; her Marion is perhaps the greatest Hawksian female performance in anything other than a Howard Hawks film. LaBeouf eventually earns his stripes after a somewhat forced beginning, and Ray Winstone, along with fellow Brits Hurt and Broadbent, fills out the roster of newcomers as a duplicitous mercenary who switches sides with each change of fortune.

Technically, film is every bit as accomplished as one expects from Spielberg and the series. Of the director's key original collaborators, editor Michael Kahn and composer John Williams return in full form. Production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas provides some striking creations, particularly the ancient circular chamber that houses the climax. First three series were lensed by the great British d.p. Douglas Slocombe in bold, clean images, and while Spielberg's now-regular cinematographer Janusz Kaminski has mostly succeeded in reproducing this look, which is very different from his usual style, he still can't prevent himself from letting in some characteristic flared light and hazy backgrounds.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — "Indiana Jones" star Shia LaBeouf was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Sunday after an early morning car crash in which he was injured, police said.

LaBeouf was the driver of a pickup truck that was involved in a 3 a.m. collision in Hollywood, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Wolf said.

"It was immediately apparent to officers responding on the scene that LaBeouf was intoxicated and he was subsequently placed under arrest," Wolf said.

LaBeouf was being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for injuries to his head, left hand and knee, Wolf said. A female passenger in LaBeouf's truck and the driver of the other vehicle were not seriously injured.

LaBeouf, 22, was booked for a misdemeanor DUI and released, Wolf said.

Wolf did not know the identities of LeBeouf's passenger or the other driver.

LaBeouf tried to make a left turn when the vehicles collided and LaBeouf's pickup rolled over, Wolf said. The cause of the crash remained under investigation, and Wolf did not have additional details.

LaBeouf has been working as an actor for 10 years. He starred on the Disney Channel series "Even Stevens," starred in last year's "Transformers," and this year appears opposite Harrison Ford in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

LaBeouf has had previous brushes with the law, but each was relatively harmless — to the point that they reinforced his image as a Hollywood good-guy with an edge.

In November, he was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing after a drunken tirade in a Chicago Walgreens.

He later told David Letterman on the "Late Show": "Drinking and driving is one thing, but drinking and shopping ... it's just as bad."

Prosecutors dropped charges because Walgreens Co. and a security company indicated they didn't want to continue the case.

Two of LaBeouf's publicists did not immediately return calls seeking comment Sunday. Neither did two attorneys who have previously represented LaBeouf.
