Check out this short science fiction film called Plurality. It takes place in NYC in 2023, where the WTC1/Freedom Tower houses THE GRID, a city-wide system that tracks all of your movements to reduce crime. But is personal safety worth the price of privacy? That's the theme in the smart short film film conceived by Ryan Condal (screenwriter for Paradise Lost, Hercules, & Cell 211) and directed by Dennis Liu.

Grounded is a metaphorical account of the experience, inviting unique interpretation and reflection by the viewer. Themes of aging, inheritance, paternal approval, cyclic trajectories, and behaviors passed on through generations are explored against an ethereal backdrop.

In Sight, a beautifully imagined film by Eran May-raz and Daniel Lazo, a videogame junkie goes on a date in a future characterized by augmented reality vision. Some wonderfully depicted applications of the technology here, reminiscent of my current read, Blue Remembered Earth by Alastair Reynolds.

Proto, a short film by written and directed by Nick Pittom, is "a sci-fi action adventure, about a child-like, experimental robot, set in the robotics lab where he has been built".

Despite the "robot wants to be human" theme being well-worn to longtime science fiction fans, I can't help but find this trailer endearing.

Check out True Skin, a short film from director Stephan Zlotescu and production firm N1ON about a cyborg on the lam in a futuristic Bangkok.

In this neon man-machine metropolis, unenhanced humans are at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder, and everyone from street vendors to prostitutes sports (occasionally black market) mechanical upgrades. It's atmospheric, gonzo, trashy, and absolutely worth a gander.

All I Think Of Is You was funded through Kickstarter for $3k and shot in 3.25 days in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's the third film from writer/director Shad Clark, whose previous films, Anonymity and Side Effects May Include, played film festivals around the world. Anonymity was also featured on IFC and optioned for feature development.
I hope the same happens with All I Think Of Is You, I'd love to see a longer version that examines the implication of the technology even more.

Meridian is a 3-part mystery/adventure involving a disaffected tech support employee (played by Orlando Jones) who finds a pendant that allows him to see into the past of objects that he touches. Meridian was written & directed by Joe Penna.

In Hirsute, a bizarre short film written and directed by A.J. Bond, a young time traveler is confronted by an arrogant and hairless future version of himself. Hirsute won an audience favorite award at the Science Fiction + Fantasy Short Film Festival put on by the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle.

The film 1 is an adaptation of one of the stories in Stanislaw Lem's book One Human Minute.










Here's the synopsis of the film:
A bookshop renowned for its rare works is mysteriously and completely filled with copies of a book entitled 1, which doesn't appear to have a publisher or author. The strange almanac describes what happens to the whole of humanity in the space of a minute. A police investigation begins and the bookshop staff are placed in solitary confinement by the Bureau for Paranormal Research (RDI Reality Defense Institute). As the investigation progresses, the situation becomes more complex and the book increasingly well known, raising numerous controversies (political, scientific, religious and artistic). Plagued by doubts, the protagonist has to face facts: reality only exists in the imagination of individuals.
'Enigmatic in form, encyclopedic in scope, and leaving room between its lines for many different readings, Sparrow's truly singular film encapsulates the whole of human experience in eccentric, elliptical cross-section. It is all at once science fiction, political allegory, transcendental mystery and free-form documentary, recalling the early works of Peter Greenaway in its vast referential breadth, its mannered blurring of fact and fiction, and the beauty of its tableau-like images.'

I meni se sviđa ovaj filmić, video sam ga na Fejsbuku. Ima čak i elemente fantastičnog, ali kontao sam da ipak nije za ovu temu. Moraću da prilagodim svoje kriterijume za ubuduće.

Ovo je mnogo slatko... i druga polovina me strašno podseća na jedan stari dečji film, Crveni balon, ne znam da li ga se neko seća...

 Istina, taj filmić skoro da i ne spada na topik, ali ima mi nekakav skroz feel good šarm koji je prevagnuo nad svim ostalim parametrima. A i mene maglovito podseća na neki stariji uradak,  najverovatnije nekakav crno-beli nemi filmić, ali deža vu je ultra maglovit i ne mogu da lociram koje je delo u pitanju.   

Ali zato ovo skroz spada ovde:

HENRi is a crowdfunded film by Eli Sasich about a derelict spaceship that becomes self-aware and builds itself a mechanical body in order to feel alive. A cool premise that's been done before, sure, but the director openly cites "his love for the sci-fi films of the '70s and '80s, as well as the classic novels of Philip K. Dick and Isaac Asimov" for inspiration.

And of meta-interest to SciFi fans is that it stars Supermans Margot Kidder and, as the voice of the AI, Keir Dullea, who played Dr. David Bowman in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Ian Hubert's Tears of Steel was realized with crowd-funding by users of the open source 3D creation tool Blender. The goal was to improve and test a complete open and free pipeline for visual effects in film – and to make a compelling SciFi film in Amsterdam.
By the looks of this, they succeeded.
