Camaromance - The Parade



Montreal's Martine Groulx, otherwise known as Camaromance, makes music that's slightly tricky. At first, her latest release, The Parade, seems light and simple, with Groulx's effortless voice lulling you into a complacent sense of ease. However, continuing through the album leaves you inexplicably devastated, as Groulx drives a steamroller over your heart with little more than a guitar, sparse percussion, and piano. There's a reason Camaromance's previous work was nominated in the category "Best Song to Listen to in the Fetal Position" for the 2007 CBC Radio 3 Bucky Awards.

Ellen Allien - Dust



Ellen Allien is known as a DJ, fashion designer, and label head, but she is most famous for her production work. Dust is her fifth full-length as a producer. This time around she worked with the similarly busy Tobias Freund, who is also a mainstay in the Berlin electronica world. Dust is being handled by Allien's own Bpitch Control label, and Allien describes it as having a "warm immediacy" compared with her previous efforts.

Demdike Stare - Forest of Evil



Demdike Stare's debut album 'Symbiosis' was released in late 2009 and explored Sean Canty and Miles Whittaker's interest in re-appropriated found sounds of all colours and origins. Fast adopted into the 'Hauntological' canon, the album evoked the noises and spirits of distant yet oddly familiar locations. The first of a vinyl trilogy set to be released through 2010, "Forest Of Evil' is a more unearthly affair, split into two long tracks that summon the presence of the pair's geographical, musical and spiritual ancestors. The 'Dusk' side unfurls from a cacophonous piano sequence into an anguished drone that nervously builds into an audible nausea, pushing through until it finally opens up into crisp, clear percussive terrain. 'Dawn' embodies a more disturbed persona, rumbling through free-jazz tape loops and thunderous drums before adopting the kind of narcotic, claustrophobic terrain often visited by Shackleton, a heaving low-end pulse and tribal colours producing dense, dark and relentless tapestries. And then, out of nowhere, a widescreen coda, edging out of total despair and darkness and into something that you could just about convince yourself, even for just a moment, reflected light and offered hope.

Black Box Recorder have issued a final statement via Facebook notifying fans of their impending demise. Having spent over 12 years casting a wry eye over contemporary proceedings, the band have — ahem — elected to time their end with the day of the British general election on May 6.

Quoting controversial British politician Enoch Powell — the Tory MP responsible for 1968's notorious "Rivers of blood" speech warning of violence over immigration into Britain — as well as Nanny McPhee and 'EastEnders' character Frank Butcher, the band have confirmed the release their final and time-sensitive single, 'Do You Believe In God?' backed with 'Keep it in the Family.'

The statement reads, "On Thursday May 6, Black Box Recorder go to the country for the last time. For one day only you can download their final two recordings... All proceeds will go to the members of Black Box Recorder and their families. No interviews. No further statements. The end."
