After collaborating with producer Rex John Shelverton (ex-Vue/The Audience/Portraits of Past), Tamaryn left New York and settled in Rex's hometown of San Francisco to record their first full-length. Whereas Tamaryn's earlier material was rooted in traditional goth-psych overtones, The Waves represents an incredible step forward in terms of her approach. These nine songs combine driving pop and lush balladry with layered, guitar-driven ethereal atmospheres, against which Tamaryn's voice, languid and restrained, melts against its surface.

Nešto razmišljam, da su preskočili Oversteps i odma izdali ovo, da li bih ga hvalio ili bih rekao "hmmm, solidno, ali već viđeno?" Mislim, nema sumnje da je ovo bolja ploča od Oversteps, to čuje svako ko ima uši, ali moguće da mi zvuči i bolje posle razočaravajućeg OS.

To the casual observer of musical history Dolly Mixture, were little more than a footnote; the three girls in cute frocks from Cambridge who supported Captain Sensible on his hits Wot and Happy Talk, the latter a number one smasheroo. Of course we, with our nappers chock full of far cooler bands, know they were more than just that. For Dolly Mixture invented indiepop. Ok, they didn't work long into the early hours and cobble up a formula for all music that fits that loose label. And I'm sure Orange Juice, the Smiths, the Field Mice and the Pastels, amongst many, will claim their patents were pending too but Dolly Mixture, with their new wave take on the 60s girl group sound certainly went some way to inspiring a lot of female fronted jangly C86 bands including Talulah Gosh, the Flatmates and Shop Assistants, as well as many new bands from distant shores, particularly Brooklyn and Scandinavia, to this day.

Certainly their handful of releases from 1980 to 84 have been much sought after, shifting on eBay for shedloads, which is why this three CD box set is now so welcome. CD1 is the major coup, a repressing on CD of their own label long player the Demonstration Tapes, which first appeared in 83 in a double vinyl pressing of 1000 (it got a very limited CD reissue in the 90s). Re-mastered, it's not as lo-fi as the name might suggest, fusing Shangri-Las harmonies with Undertones-like fuzzy powerpop sensibilities and despite its length, an incredible 27 tracks, it keeps throwing up bubbly belters on each play.

CD2, titled Singles, captures the As and Bs of the four 7"s and one 12" EP. It includes their two major career high points, the cheery New Look Baby and the seminal Everything and More and familiarity over the years hasn't dulled the joy of hearing the eight tracks from the singles now. The CD finishes with the six tracks off the Fireside EP which showed the direction the band were heading in when they called it a day – very competent instrumental chamber pop. Lovely though they are, they sound somewhat odd alongside their earlier work.

CD3, titled ...And More, is the rest of their recorded output; demos, live tracks and various songs that have never previously been released. It's interesting and worth a few spins, particularly to hear their version of Love Affair's Rainbow Valley.

Doduše, jeste Zorn prošle godine uradio nekoliko jazz albuma ali od ovog sam očekivao više apstrakcije a manje ritma i harmonije. Prva kompozicija je kao kad bi Mike Oldfield radio ezoterični jevrejski jazz

Dax Riggs - Say Goodnight to the World



On his second solo release, Dax Riggs proves that, despite the popularity of his sludgy '90s project Acid Bath, he prefers the sound of his swampy indie outfit Deadboy & the Elephantmen, which was known for its captivating covers of material by fellow doleful dudes Nick Cave, Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen. A ballad called "Like Moonlight" presents Riggs as the perfect link between Cohen and Echo & the Bunnymen's Ian McCulloch, while the title track will appeal to fans of both Chris Cornell and Jim Morrison. Meanwhile, "Heartbreak Hotel" takes a legendary line from the Elvis Presley tune of the same name — "I'm so lonely I could die" — and drowns it in bayou blues. The result sounds like a rock 'n' roll vision Portishead and the White Stripes might cook up in a New Orleans speakeasy. If you can stomach this much darkness, it's an album worth checking out.

Elson is a founding member and performer with the New York City based political cabaret troupe The Citizens Band, appearing with them at various theatres as well as the downtown art gallery Deitch Projects. Critical response to Elson's performances have been unequivocally positive, with the press frequently commenting on her striking vocal skills.[11] As one of the leaders of The Citizens Band she has performed a variety of songs including well received covers of The Velvet Underground, Kurt Weill, Elvis Presley, Mimi and Richard Fariña, Pete Seeger, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young and Marlene Dietrich. She has also written and co-written songs for the troupe's performances. Her cover of The Velvet Underground's "Candy Says" is available on The Citizen Band's MySpace page.[12] Short samples of her performances are available on the troupe's website as well.[13][14]

Elson's musical career has been building slowly over the past several years. In 2003 she contributed backing vocals to a remix of Robert Plant's "Last Time I Saw Her" off of Plant's album Dreamland.[15]. In 2005 a personal recording of Elson singing was made available on a CD accompanying the August 2005 issue of Uncut magazine (the song was titled "Coming Down"). The song was chosen by REM singer Michael Stipe[16] In 2006 she dueted with Cat Power on a provocative cover version of "I Love You (Me Either)" for Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited, a tribute album to French singer/songwriter Serge Gainsbourg.[17]

After Jack White found a few songs that Karen Elson had hidden in their home, he urged her to try and write some more. Eventually she had written enough for an entire album. In February 2010, it was announced that Elson would be releasing her debut solo album The Ghost Who Walks, produced by her husband, Jack White. Her first music video for "The Ghost Who Walks (Acoustic)" was made available on her website and the Third Man Records' Modlife website. The album received good reviews, Karen Elson was credited for both her singing and song writing abilities in the genre of gothic-folk and country. Some of Elsons songs, like 'Lunasa', are even associated with pagan and celtic music.
