heh, nije ovo baš naročito 'SERIOUSLY' ali ok, lepo je da to bude na jednom mestu, koga zanima.
mene, baš kao i za weird tales sa prethodne strane - taj pulp vrlo slabo zanima.

An Edgy Realism : Film Theoretical Encounters with Dogma 95, New French Extremity, and the Shaky-CAM Horror Film

Cambridge Scholars Publishing - Jerome Schaefer - 01 Oct 2015 - Hardback - 170 pages

Similar to the way in which the new waves of the 1960s and 1970s had been characterized by new forms of cinematic realism, cinema since the turn of the millennium has pointed into the direction of a new, edgy realism. Art film movements such as Dogma 95 and the New French Extremity, as well as shaky-cam horror films like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, provide evidence of the fact that the proliferation of the digital since the 1990s has profoundly changed not only contemporary media culture and the social role of film, as seen, for example, in the case of amateur film and the phenomenon of mobile reporting and its dis-tribution via YouTube and the like, but also notions of realism and authenticity. As modern film theory has struggled to keep pace with the developments of contemporary cinema, this book draws on actor-network theory and its material-semiotic mindset to allow a thorough understanding of the innovative character of cinema at the turn of the millennium. It is argued that the ongoing digitization has finally allowed cinema to return to a mode of per-ception; one side of this being the 'spectacle' of the blockbuster, while the other side might best be described as an edgy realism: the realism of 'material-semiotic relationality'.

QUILL DRIVER BOOKS - George Case -  210 pages - 01 Mar 2016

Shockers! : The '70s Cinema of Trash, Terror and Sexploitation

Publisher I.B.Tauris & Co Ltd - Xavier Mendik, Julian Petley - 288 pages - 30 Aug 2016

Demonic teens, hillbilly horror, porno chic and rape-revenge: what spurred the radical, transgressive and often sadistic film of the '70s? Shockers! takes an unprecedented look at the mainstream and obscure films of this generation, from America and beyond, arguing that often disreputable genres and cycles best shed light on the turbulence of the decade. Cult film experts explain how contemporary fears of intergenerational conflict and criminality - as well as newly permissive attitudes towards sex on screen - allowed previously illicit filmic imagery to proliferate in American and British classics, such as The Exorcist and A Clockwork Orange, as well as films from Australia, East Asia, Latin America and Europe. Rich with cultural and political context, this book offers the first global perspective on the shocking cinema of the '70s.

Zombies, vampires and ghosts feature prominently in nearly all forms of entertainment in the 21st century, including popular fiction, film, comics, television and computer games. But these creatures have been vital to the entertainment industry since the best-seller books of a century and half ago. Monsters don't just invade popular culture, they help sell popular culture. This collection of new essays covers 150 years of enduringly popular Gothic monsters who have shocked and horrified audiences in literature, film and comics. The contributors unearth forgotten monsters and reconsider familiar ones, examining the audience taboos and fears they embody.

Over 400 horror, science fiction and fantasy films are analyzed in this comprehensive reference to the genre's sequels, series and remakes. Filmographies are given for each film, providing year of release, studio, running time, cast and credits. This is followed by a plot synopsis, reviews of the work, and a critical analysis.

Japanese Horror Films and Their American Remakes

ROUTLEDGE - Valerie Wee - 258p - Reprint - 02 Feb 2016

The Ring (2002)-Hollywood's remake of the Japanese cult success Ringu (1998)-marked the beginning of a significant trend in the late 1990s and early 2000s of American adaptations of Asian horror films. This book explores this complex process of adaptation, paying particular attention to the various transformations that occur when texts cross cultural boundaries. Through close readings of a range of Japanese horror films and their Hollywood remakes, this study addresses the social, cultural, aesthetic and generic features of each national cinema's approach to and representation of horror, within the subgenre of the ghost story, tracing convergences and divergences in the films' narrative trajectories, aesthetic style, thematic focus and ideological content. In comparing contemporary Japanese horror films with their American adaptations, this book advances existing studies of both the Japanese and American cinematic traditions, by: * illustrating the ways in which each tradition responds to developments in its social, cultural and ideological milieu; and, * examining Japanese horror films and their American remakes through a lens that highlights cross-cultural exchange and bilateral influence. The book will be of interest to scholars of film, media, and cultural studies.

Reading in the Dark : Horror in Children's Literature and Culture

University Press of Mississippi -  Jessica R McCort - 256p  - 01 Jun 2016

Dark novels, shows, and films targeted toward children and young adults are proliferating wildly. It is even more crucial now to understand the methods by which such texts have traditionally operated and how those methods have been challenged, abandoned, and appropriated. "Reading in the Dark" fills a gap in criticism devoted to children's popular culture by concentrating on horror, an often-neglected genre. These scholars explore the intersection between horror, popular culture, and children's cultural productions, including picture books, fairy tales, young adult literature, television, and monster movies."Reading in the Dark" looks at horror texts for children with deserved respect, weighing the multitude of benefits they can provide for young readers and viewers. Refusing to write off the horror genre as campy, trite, or deforming, these essays instead recognize many of the texts and films categorized as "scary" as among those most widely consumed by children and young adults. In addition, scholars consider how adult horror has been domesticated by children's literature and culture, with authors and screenwriters turning that which was once horrifying into safe, funny, and delightful books and films. Scholars likewise examine the impetus behind such re-envisioning of the adult horror novel or film as something appropriate for the young. The collection investigates both the constructive and the troublesome aspects of scary books, movies, and television shows targeted toward children and young adults. It considers the complex mechanisms by which these texts communicate overt messages and hidden agendas, and it treats as well the readers' experiences of such mechanisms.

Italian Horror Cinema

EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY PRESS - Stefano Baschiera, Russ Hunter - 224p - 01 Jul 2016

In its heyday from the late 1950s until the early 1980s Italian horror cinema was characterised by an excess of gore, violence and often incoherent plot-lines. Films about zombies, cannibals and psychopathic killers ensured there was no shortage of controversy, and the genre presents a seemingly unpromising nexus of films for sustained critical analysis. But Italian horror cinema with all its variations, subgenres and filoni remains one of the most recognizable and iconic genre productions in Europe, achieving cult status worldwide. One of the manifestations of a rich production landscape in Italian popular cinema after the Second World War, Italian horror was also characterised by its imitation of foreign models and the transnational dimension of its production agreements, as well as by its international locations and stars. This collection brings together for the first time a range of contributions aimed at a new understanding of the genre, investigating the different phases in its history, the peculiarities of the production system, the work of its most representative directors (Mario Bava and Dario Argento) and the wider role it has played within popular culture.

Mediamorphosis:
Kafka and the Moving Image
Columbia University Press

Edited by Shai Biderman and Ido Lewit

Mediamorphosis brings together leading Kafka scholars and critics in literature and film studies to provide a thorough investigation of the reciprocal relations between Kafka's work and the cinematic medium. The contributors discuss the theoretical integration of Kafka and cinema via such issues as the cinematic qualities in Kafka's prose and the possibility of a visual manifestation of the Kafkaesque. Alongside these debates, the book investigates the capacity of cinema to incorporate and express the unique qualities of a Kafkaesque world through an analysis of cinematic adaptations of Kafka's prose, such as Michael Haneke's The Castle (1997) and Straub-Huillet's Class Relations (1984), as well as films that carry a more subtle relation to Kafka's oeuvre, such as the cinematic works of David Cronenberg, the films of the Coen brothers, Chris Marker's "film-essay," Charlie Chaplin's tramp, and others.
