Today's the day that the Dr. Who cameras start rolling again and to celebrate the occasion, the BBC have revealed a sprinkling of details about the episode they're shooting. Here's our top ten new scraps from their press release and the ensuing chatter:
It's the Chrismas special and BBC entertainment reporter Lizo Mzimba thinks that it's called Father Who?, while I think he's possibly very wrong and has just read too much into the headline at the top of the press release.
Filming will run into August. Very seasonal.

And so is Welsh pop-classical singer Katherine Jenkins (), in her first acting role. She was told that she had the part on her 30th birthday.
It's a "clever twist" on Dickens' A Christmas Carol. How Timey Wimey will it get? Very, I expect. I'm rubbing my hands together with gleeful anticipation.

Moffat was writing the script in April – when the public had finally gotten their first taste of Matthew Smith's Doctor. Will this have had any effect?
The Grand Moff says "It's all your favourite Christmas movies at once, in an hour" which gives us a) a running time and b) goosebumps. Though I doubt it's all of my favourite Christmas movies, if we're being honest.

Christmas Day always seems like a bit of a let down, doesn't it? Not with Steven Moffat in charge it won't.

At the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Steven Moffat revealed that the upcoming 13-episode season of Doctor Who would be split down the middle into 7-episode spring arc and a 6-episode autumn storyline.

Moffat divulged that the break next season wouldn't be the dreaded mid-season hiatus, but rather a split between two distinct stories:

Looking at the next series I thought what this show needs is a big event in the middle [...] I kept referring to a mid-season finale. So we are going to make it two series – seven episodes at Easter building to an earth-shattering climax, a cliffhanger we could never normally do because it would be too long before it came back. An enormous game-changing cliffhanger that will change everything. The wrong expression would be to say we are splitting it in two. We are making it two separate series [...] With an Easter series, an autumn series and a Christmas special, you are never going to be more than few months from the new series of Doctor Who [...] Tart that I am, we will now have two first nights and two finales, twice as many event episodes as we had before.
Moffat also discussed the show's budget ("I don't understand numbers. It's a decent budget. I beg for money and more rubber green people and eventually they say OK, you can have a third rubber green person.") and the prospects of seeing a Doctress:

I think about it sometimes and maybe it will happen someday. It wouldn't have been right this time [...] A woman can play the part. You have to remember the single most important thing about regeneration is you must convince the audience and the children that's it's not a new man, it's not a different man, it's the same one. It's a bigger ask if you turn him into a woman.
Finally, Moffat mentioned that he would be with Who for the long haul — he won't leave the program "for a while yet."

Christopher Isherwood (played by Matt Smith), escapes repressive English society and his suffocating relationship with his mother, Kathleen (played by Lindsay Duncan), for the decadent – and politically unstable – world of Thirties Berlin.

The hedonistic cabaret scene of Berlin in the Thirties is in full swing when wide-eyed young writer Christopher Isherwood arrives in the city, unable to speak a word of German.

To Isherwood's reserved English sensibility, the city's thriving gay subculture is thrilling and intoxicating, but he soon finds himself heartbroken after the failure of a hopeless love affair, and so sets out on a process of self-discovery.

Jean Ross (played by Imogen Poots), is an aspiring actress and singer who provided Christopher with the inspiration for the Sally Bowles character of Cabaret fame.

Gerald Hamilton (played by Toby Jones), is a peculiar man who provided the inspiration for the title character in the celebrated Isherwood novel Mr Norris Changes Trains.

Wystan Auden (played by Pip Carter), is the famous poet with a droll sense of humour who persuaded Christopher to join him in Berlin.

Heinz (played by Douglas Booth), is an unassuming street cleaner who Christopher meets and falls in love with during his time in Berlin.

Christopher And His Kind is written by acclaimed playwright Kevin Elyot.

The BBC announced today that the upcoming sixth season of the rebooted "Doctor Who" will kick off with a two-parter set and shot in the United States.

Key scenes will be filmed in Utah for a story set in the late '60s in which The Doctor, Amy and Rory find themselves on a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the desert of the mid-West to the Oval Office itself.

Filming on the episodes kick off at the production's home base in Cardiff, Wales this month with the key actors heading to America in mid November to shoot pivotal scenes.

Alex Kingston will also return as River Song for the two-parter which show runner Steven Moffat is penning. Toby Haynes, who directed last season's two-part finale ("The Pandorica Opens," "The Big Bang") will helm these episodes.

The much anticipated Neil Gaiman-penned episode will air the week after, serving as the first stand alone episode of the new season.

Though the series has done American-set episodes before, this marks the first time it has actually shot in the U.S. In previous years the show has shot episodes in Croatia, Italy, Canada and France.

"Doctor Who" returns with a Christmas special in December, and then begins airing its sixth season around Easter next year.

Matt Smith will reprise his role of the eleventh Doctor in an upcoming Russell T. Davies-penned two-part episode of "The Sarah Jane Adventures" scheduled to air October 25th & 26th in the UK.

They say that if you have to explain a joke, then it's not funny. I say balls to that. Because sometimes to have to explain it to Americans. Or people who were born after 1980. Case in point.

British teklevision in the sixties and seventies went through a strange blip when the commercial television station, ITV stole talent from the BBC by despicably offering them more money.

So the big names of British TV, Morecambe And Wise, Peter Cooke and Dudley Moore, and Tony Hancock  made the trip, earning a fortune – and then putting out mediocre work. To a man, their ITV work was substandard compared to their BBC output, despite larger budgets and more generous terms. It was like a curse, Some recovered going back to the BBC, some didn't.

ITV also went through a string of bawdy sitcoms, basically consisting of middle aged man ,lusting after busty girls while trapped in marriages with middle aged women while making jokes about iffeminate men. Doctor In the House, George And Mildred, and On The Buses. These shows are now being repeated interminably by satellite channel Dave (The home of witty banter). Okay? Okay.

You now have enough backstory to appreciate this wonderful creation of Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse – Doctor Who: The ITV Years.

Odgledah ove prve tri epizode, i za njih se 300 čuda desilo, što je bar 250 previše...

Ali je lepo.

Realno, ja ni prethodnu sezonu nisam ukapirao do kraja. Ova mi samo nastavlja konfuziju.
Naravno, i dalje je to odlična serija koja biva sve bolja i bolja.

Nego, jesi skontao problematičan detalj u ovoj gusarskoj epizodi? Onaj gusar koji ostaje zaključan sa Rorijem, Ejmi i klincem u barutani... Jednostavno se više nije pojavio, a nigde nismo videli momenat u kom ga ona sickbay sirena teleportuje.

OK. Dinamicno, uzbudljivo ali kamo brate Moffate. Previse je digao ulog. Dzaba se Matt, Karren i Rory trude da spuste stvar na zemlju al Moffat hoce da napravi Lost (Fringe) pobogu. Ako ne ubaci Cybermane skoro "You will be deleted".

Meni je nova sezona sjajna. Moffat je za tri klase bolji od onog nesrećnog Russela Daviesa. I u prve četiri sezone su njegove epizode bile superiorne u odnosu na sve ostalo.

Deluje Star Wars zanimljivo. Opet se zle sile ustremile na Doktora.
Usput, ova prethodna dvodelna me je udavila. Jedino što je valjalo je zadnjih par minuta druge epizode, kad se otkriva ovo oko Ejmi. Očigledno se isplati gledanje jedino Mofatovih epizoda. I jedne Gejmenove.

Da li mogu da počnem od ovog novog serijala iz 2005. bez apsolutno ikakvog znanja od ranije?
Koliko će mi specijala i nultih epizoda trebati između?
Da li su stare epizode toliko dobre da ih vredi iskopati nekako?

Počni od ovog 2005 slobodno. Sve će ti se samo kasti. Imaš redovan serijal i uz njega nekoliko tv filmova (2-4 po sezoni). Nekad su bitni, nekad ne... Ali u svakom slučaju nema potrebe ići van toga — sem ako ti nije ćef

u suštini, možeš lepo da počneš od pete sezone, pa ako ti se dopadne da se vratiš na prve četiri...
