AMC Is Taking PREACHER To Pilot



With the loss of Breaking Bad and soon Mad Men, AMC is looking at a big hole in their schedule, one that shows like The Killing and Low Winter Sun haven't quite been able to fill. While they have the ratings juggernaut that is The Walking Dead, they still need something that will be a buzz show, that will get a ton of attention and make a cultural impact. They're betting that show will be Preacher.

AMC Confirms Development of 'Preacher' With Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg


AMC and Sony TV have officially announced the development of "Preacher," a drama hailing from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's '90s comic book series, "Preacher" centers on Reverend Jesse Custer, a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith and learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned His responsibilities. Custer finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, and does so with his former girlfriend and a friendly vampire.

News of the AMC drama development initially broke on blogs in November, but neither the network nor the studio confirmed the project at that time.

"This is amazing!" Rogen and Goldberg said. "We've tried for seven years to work on 'Preacher' and we're so psyched AMC is finally letting us. It is our favorite comic of all time, and we're going to do everything we can to do it right. Humperdoo!"

Rogen and Goldberg, the creatives behind feature film "This is the End," will pen the pilot for "Preacher" and exec produce. Sam Catlin ("Breaking Bad") will serve as exec producer and showrunner. Fellow executive producers include Neal Moritz and Vivian Cannon for Original Films, along with Ori Marmur, Ken Levin and Jason Netter.

Ennis added, "Steve Dillon and I are very happy to see Preacher being developed for TV, which seems a much more natural home for the story than a two-hour movie...Obviously it's taken awhile, but Ken levin along with Neal Moritz and his team refused to give up, long after the point when I myself grew skeptical, and their unrelenting enthusiasm for the project has gotten us where we need to be."

"Memento" and "Interstellar" scribe and "Person of Interest" creator Jonathan Nolan is set to write and produce "Foundation," an HBO and Warner Bros. TV series adaptation of Isaac Asimov's original novel trilogy of the same name.

Asimov penned the books back in the early 1950s, though followed it up with four more books in the 1980s. The original trilogy follows mathematician Hari Seldon, a man who has dedicated his life to developing psychohistory - a concept that is able to predict the future on a large scale.

When he foresees the imminent fall of the Galactic Empire and a dark age that will last thirty millenia, he sets out to create a foundation of talented artisans and engineers to preserve and expand on humanity's collective knowledge with the hope of establishing a new empire.

Sony Pictures acquired the rights several years ago to the property with Roland Emmerich attached to direct and produce. Said project failed to materialize, leading to HBO spending serious coin to acquire it earlier this summer. Nolan, who was already working with HBO on the upcoming "Westworld" series, has been quietly been developing "Foundation" since HBO scored the rights.

Fox confirms 'X-Files' reboot talks (and would love more 'Prison Break' too)

Fox's new agenda is looking a lot like their old one. Confirming some prior reports, the network's leadership says they are seriously chasing a reboot of The X-Files and are possibly interested in bringing back Prison Break too (along with yet another edition of 24 as well — but that's another story).
On The X-Files front, Fox chairman and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman say they have been in talks with series creator Chris Carter about reviving the supernatural procedural, which was a major hit for the network from 1993 to 2002. The executives also revealed they hope to have original series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles on the show.
One thing all three titles have in common is they're properties of 20th Century Fox Television, which Walden and Newman ran prior to adding the Fox broadcast network to their plate last year.
"It's true that we've had some conversations on X-Files," Newman said. "We're hopeful of being able to bring that back at some point."

Walden added: "Gary and I both worked [at 20th Century Fox Television] through the entire run of The X Files. It was a great experience. We've maintained good relationships with Chris, David and Gillian. We're very hopeful, but it's hard. The actors are very busy. They have a lot going on. Chris has a lot on his plate, so it's just trying to carve out the time."
Amazon recently declined to make Carter's new post-apocalyptic series project The After, so the writer-producer may be more open to revisiting his past. More problematic is that Duchovny has an upcoming NBC event series, Aquarius, while Anderson has a recurring role on NBC's Hannibal. Both actors would presumably have to get contractually clear of their commitments to Fox's rival before signing onto an X-Files relaunch.
As for Prison Break, the team sounded more skeptical of a reboot coming together, but also very interested. "There is some speculation in the press about Prison Break, which honestly was slightly news to us," Newman said. "Although we've made it clear over the years to the studio that we would bring Prison Break back in a heartbeat. It's probably the perfect event series. If our old partners in that show are interested, that would be great."
It wasn't clear if the executives planned to do Prison Break with a new cast or not, but the show's stars Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller are currently recurring as villains on The CW's The Flash.

Mene Terry Brooks nikad nije privlačio. Čitao sam Mač od Šanare kao klinac, i bio mi je interesantan dok nisam video koja je to dečja kopija Gospodara Prstenova. Ne smeta mi toliko što je kopija, nego što je inferiorna u svakom pogledu. Mada, kažu da se Brooks kasnije popravlja. Ova serija je valjda radjena po Elfstones of Shannara, drugom delu prve trilogije (ide posle Mača), ali nisam siguran, treba proveriti.

U svakom slučaju, fan sam žanra, tako da ću pogledati.

Dve vesti koje Variety javlja ovih dana, obe vezane za fantastiku:

1. Nova varijacija na temu Van Helsinga, sa ženskim protagonistom, za kanal Syfy, i pod nadzorom Neila LaBute-a! Lovely! 13x1 sat. U svakom slučaju, zanimljiva kombinacija.

2. Ekranizacija fantastične trilogije His Dark Materials Philipa Pullmana za BBC One.
Zlatni kompas nije bio uspešan film, a bogami ni dobar, ali uvek postoji nada da će Pullmanovo najveće delo dobiti dostojnu ekranizaciju.
