MOSKVA - Bunker iz doba Hladnog rata koji je trebao spasiti sovjetske vođe u slučaju nuklearnog napada bit će mjesto 24-satne zabave za Ruse koji su spremni platiti 1.000 dolara kako bi u petak uspjeli pobjeći od smaka svijeta.

Bunker 42., koji je danas turistička atrakcija, nalazi se 56 metara ispod zemlje u središnjem dijelu Moskve, u blizini Kremlja i može primiti 300 ljudi.

"Mnogi ljudi osjećaju se mnogo mirnije ako mogu provesti ovaj kritični dan u maksimalnom komforu i sigurnosti", kazao je Aleksej Pavlovski koji inače vodi turističke obilaske tog bunkera koji je 2006. pretvoren u muzej.

"Postojat će dječja soba s crtanim filmovima, za odrasle će biti prikazivani filmovi posvećeni kraju svijeta i bit će organiziran posjet muzeju", pojasnio je.

Nakon što uđu u bunker, izgrađen 1956., posjetitelji se moraju spustiti 18 katova u liftu dok se iz zvučnika čuje: "Pažnja! Pažnja! Neprijatelj je izveo nuklearni napad".

ZAGREB - Stanovnici Latinske Amerike najpozitivniji su ljudi na svijetu, dok je jugoistok Europe pri dnu ljestvice, pokazalo je novo Gallupovo istraživanje.

Stanovnici Paname i Paragvaja najpozitivnije gledaju na svijet, a na dnu su ljestvice stanovnici Singapura, Armenci i Iračani, te odmah iza njih Srbi.

Gallup je mjerio pozitivne emocije u 148 zemalja i područja u 2011., koristeći pet pitanja: jeste li se jučer dobro osjećali, jeste li osjećali da vas drugi poštuju, jeste li se puno smijali, jeste li naučili nešto zanimljivo i jeste li uživali.

Osamdeset i pet posto stanovnika Paname i Paragvaja odgovorilo je na pitanja s "da", kao i 84 posto u El Salvadoru i Venezueli, te 83 posto u Trinidadu i Tobagu i Tajlandu. Slijede Gvatemala i Filipini (82 posto), te Ekvador i Costa Rica (81 posto).

Na dnu ljestvice su Singapur (46 posto), Armenija (49 posto), Irak (50 posto) i Srbija (52 posto).

U Hrvatskoj je 57 posto ljudi odgovorilo s "da", a tu su blizu i Makedonija (55 posto), Crna Gora (56 posto), te BiH (59 posto). Slovenci su se malo odvojili te je njih 68 posto odgovorilo pozitivno na pitanja.

Ti podaci, piše Gallup, mogli bi iznenaditi analitičare koji se tradicionalno fokusiraju na ekonomske pokazatelje. Stanovnici Paname, koja je 90. na popisu zemalja po BDP-u po stanovniku, izražavaju najpozitivnije gledanje na svijet, dok stanovnici Singapura, pete zemlje po BDP-u, imaju najmanje pozitivne emocije.

Rezultati su dobiveni u telefonskim razgovorima i intervjuima uživo provedenim tijekom 2011. u 148 zemalja.

France launches airstrikes in Mali to ease intervention

France has engaged airstrikes in Mali to clear the way for an intervention force concentrating on the capital. Despite promises that military campaign in Mali will be a short one, there are fears that Paris has got into a lengthy conflict.

On the fourth day of the French military incursion the armed forces widened their bombing campaign to encompass central Mali, to target new threats. French Defense Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian said that Islamist rebels had seized the town of Diabaly in central Mali on Monday, overcoming the Malian government forces stationed there.

France's Rafale fighters bombed out Islamists' strongholds in the north near the region's main city of Gao on Sunday, causing the militants to flee, reports AFP. The French Air Force also eliminated arms stockpiles and fuel reserves belonging to Al-Qaeda-linked Ansar Dine (Defenders of Faith), MUJWA and AQIM militant groups and attacked extremists' bases on the border with Mauritania using 250kg bombs.

Locals welcomed the actions of French Air Force which stopped the nine-month rule of the Islamists and now expect the Malian army's return into the region to prevent militants from coming back. Reportedly, the Malian army has already made significant gains, recapturing the towns of Douentza and Konna.

The French offensive will get support from some of the former Islamists' allies, with Mali's separatist Tuareg rebel movement, the MNLA "ready to help" the French ground troops.

"We can do the job on the ground. We've got men, arms and, above all, the desire to rid Azawad of terrorism," Moussa Ag Assarid of the MNLA told AFP.

However, the Tuaregs do not want to see the Malian army in the north of the country before an "accord between the two parties" is reached, he added.

The MNLA rebels, who've claimed northern Mali as their "homeland," had initially joined the Islamist groups, but later turned to Malian authorities after an extreme form of Islamic law was imposed on them. The Tuaregs, who helped instigate the rebellion in January 2012, allowing Islamists to come to power in the country's north, have now turned away from the same militants, instead asking the Malian government for self-rule.

The office of French President Francois Hollande announced that cabinet is holding a meeting on Monday morning on the Mali crisis. The French mission in the UN has informed that the UN Security Council will also discuss the situation in Mali later on Monday.

Separately, the EU stated that it intends to accelerate preparations to send in military trainers to strengthen the Malian army. At the same time, spokesperson Michael Mann told press that the EU had no intention of assigning the military trainers a combat role when they arrive in Mali towards the end of February.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has assured that Islamists in Mali have already been "stopped" and "taking care" of terrorist groups in the country is "a question of weeks." He also informed that the assault on Islamist compounds on Sunday has become possible as Algeria finally opened its aerospace to French Air Force operations despite previously opposing French interference into Mali's affairs.

Still, the French authorities have acknowledged that encountered Islamist extremists in Mali are well-trained and armed with advanced weapons, something that has not been expected. On Saturday the militants wounded a helicopter pilot who later died in hospital, becoming France's only confirmed combat fatality to the moment.

France has still not forgotten its "great colonial past" in Africa and Asia and the operation in Mali, a former French colony (1892-1960), is yet another proof to that fact, told RT political writer and journalist Barry Lando. He said France will be stuck in the operation for longer than it expects and Paris will after all have to negotiate with the rebels.

"The French do not know what their objectives [in Mali] are, how long it is going to go on," claims Lando. The journalist points out that northern Mali is comparable to the size of France itself, questioning "a few hundred" French troops' capability to track down the Islamists on such a vast territory that the militants call home and know all too well.

"It is a potentially huge involvement, a very long task. In the end what you are going to do is to negotiate with these people, this is the only way out and I think this is how it is going to end," predicted Lando.

Following a military coup in Mali in March 2012, Islamists used the destabilized situation in the country to gain control of the northern part of Mali with the help of nomadic Tuareg tribes.

The use of the international force in Mali to help the country's government regain control of the northern territories was authorized by the UN Security Council in December. Resolution 2085 authorizes the deployment of 3,300 African-led international troops. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is expected to hold an extraordinary summit in Cote d'Ivoire's capital, Abidjan, on Wednesday.

African nations Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal and Togo promised to contribute 500 troops each, whereas Benin pledged to send 300 service personnel. The African troops that will start to arrive next Sunday will be going under command of the Nigerian General Shehu Abdulkadir.

France has already deployed some 550 troops to Mali under 'Operation Serval'. The contingent's commander, Colonel Paul Geze, has announced that French task force's primary aim is to protect the 6,000 expat community in the capital, Bamako. Another task group will be deployed in the town of Mopti, about 500km to the north of the capital.

Britain is also giving France logistical support, delivering military and medical supplies to Mali.

So far there have been reports of over 100 killed militants, including one of the leaders of Ansar Dine. Mali's President Dioncounda Traore has confirmed that 11 Malian soldiers had died in the fighting. Human rights group report of at least 11 civilians, including three children, killed since the beginning of the counter-terrorist operation in Mali.

Girl pens letter to paper after it publishes column defending racist language in books

A 9-year-old German girl wrote an impassioned letter to Zeit, a German newspaper, over a column defending racist language in old children's books.
The columnist had written: "What do you call it when a book publisher announces that it plans to neutralize any terms in its books 'that could be felt as hurtful' by readers—if that's not censorship, what is?" The piece was in part a response to German Family Minister Kristina Schroder, who said that when she reads old stories to her daughter, she edits out offensive words.
After reading the column, the girl, Ishema Kane, penned a hand-written letter to Zeit. She wrote it in German, but here is a translation provided by the blog Stop! Talking:

Dear Editors,
You're in luck that I'm at least writing this letter to you in my best handwriting because I am very angry at you. Why should it not be prohibited to write 'Neger' in children's books? One has to be able to put oneself in somebody else's shoes. Because my father is Senegalese, and he is a very dark shade of brown; I am café-au-lait brown. Just imagine if you were Afro-German and lived in Germany. You're a newspaper reader and unsuspectingly buy the ZEIT of January 17th 2013. Suddenly, you note the article 'The Little Witch Hunt.' This is when you read that the word 'Neger' is supposed to be deleted from children's books, and that this would allegedly spoil the children's books. I find it totally shit that this word would remain in children's books if it were up to you. You cannot imagine how I feel when I have to read or hear that word. It is simply very, very terrible. My father is not a 'Neger' [lightning bolt sign] nor am I. This is also true for all other Africans. Right. That was my opinion. This word should be deleted from children's books.

Zeit did write a response thanking Kane for her letter and noting that it had received many comments about the column. The paper also mentioned that the date of the book's publication should be taken into account as acceptable language changes with the years.

But I didn't want to let the opportunity pass to answer you directly because an article I just published in Die Zeit shared, it seems to me, something of your opinion. A recent poll conducted in Germany found that when it comes to removing offensive and racist words in children's books, people were largely split. Around half the respondents were in favor the changes, while 48 percent were against them.

Police: Suicide bombing at US Embassy, 2 dead   

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A suspected suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at the entrance of the U.S. Embassy in the Turkish capital on Friday, killing himself and one other person, officials said.
U.S. Ambassador Francis Ricciardione told reporters that a guard at the gate was killed in the 1:15 p.m. blast, and a Turkish citizen was wounded.
The bomb appeared to have exploded inside the security checkpoint at the side entrance of the embassy, but did not do damage inside the embassy itself. Footage showed that the door had been blown off its hinges and debris littered the ground and across the road. An Associated Press journalist saw a body in the street in front of an embassy side entrance.
Police swarmed the area and several ambulances were dispatched. An AP journalist saw one woman who appeared to be seriously injured being carried into an ambulance.
The police official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with government rules, said police had examined security cameras around the embassy and had identified two people who could have been the suicide bomber.
The embassy building is heavily protected. It is near an area where several other embassies are located, including that of Germany and France. Police sealed off the area and journalists were being kept away.
The phones were not being answered at the embassy. In a statement, it thanked Turkey for "its solidarity and outrage over the incident."
There was no claim of responsibility, but Kurdish rebels and Islamic militants are active in Turkey. Kurdish rebels, who are fighting for autonomy in the Kurdish-dominated southeast, have dramatically stepped up attacks in Turkey over the last year.
As well, homegrown Islamic militants tied to al-Qaida have carried out suicide bombings in Istanbul. In a 2003 attack on the British consulate, a suspected Islamic militant rammed an explosive-laden pickup truck into the main gate, killing 58, including the British consul-general.
In 2008, an attack blamed on al-Qaida-affiliated militants outside the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul left three assailants and three policemen dead.
Turkey has become a harsh critic of the regime in Syria, where a vicious civil war has left at least 60,000 people dead. The first of six Patriot missile batteries being deployed to Turkey to protect against attack from Syria was declared operational and placed under NATO command on Saturday and others were expected to be operational in the coming days.

Bridž ja valjda već na programu za 2016. godinu. Nego oni stalno kao evaluiraju relevantnost sportova pa neki izlete, neki ulete, neki se vrate... Bejzbol je izbačen ali se sad radi na njegovom vraćanju za 2020. godinu itd. Skalop je samo delimično na tragu jer kao što znamo, OI u svoj program uvršćuju i tekvondo, recimo koji je skroz nekomercijalan, a zimske OI imaju i kurling i svakojake gluposti... Mislim da je tu više stvar u tome ko uspešnije lobira a ne čista ukupna monetarna isplativost datog sporta...

Eh, Meho, kad bi isplativost nekog sporta bila sazdana od prodatih ulaznica onda bih zaista bio tek delimično na tragu. Tada ekstremni sportovi uopšte ne bi postojali, jer tek tu ne postoje nikakve plaćene ulaznice. A postoje jer je, na primer, proizvođač vode Mountain Dew otkrio da su ti marginalni sportovi idealni za plasiranje svojih bezalkoholnih pića, da ne govorim o Red Bull-u, Gatorade-u i drugim proizvođačima energetskih pića, a posebno o proizvođačima skupe opreme. Ovo je surovo doba marketinga i advertajzinga koji ne biraju način da obezbede prolaz do potrošača za svoju robu. Pogledaj samo ko su generalni sponzori najvećih takmičenja. Zato će da propadnu svi jeftini kolektivni sportovi, koji traže sale za svoja takmičenja, a troše samo šorceve, majice i patike. Ako se bejzbol vrati, onda će se vratiti jer je nacionalni sport USA, mada ga danas pretežno igraju latino igrači. To ti je kao sa ćurkama, moraju da ih gaje zbog Thanksgivinga, a ono što preostaje prodaju budzašto.

Shvatam ja šta pričaš, al velim, ima još primera potpuno marginalnih sportova koji uspevaju da se održe unutar OI selekcije verovatno snagom nekih lobija koji su mali ali jaki...

Alo, jel' me čuješ? Amaterski sport je umro. Crko. Olimpijski duh je među Lonijevim spiritima. Svetski vaterpolo je postao balkanski sport, jer su tri "najjače" države Crna Gora, Hrvatska i Srbija. Trebaju im samo kapice i gaće. Pardon, ni one im neće uskoro trebati. Može da im lobira samo Vuk Jeremić. I bandži će postati olimpijski sport, ako se proizvodžači sajli i konopaca namerače. I vaše svirke kao prateći bend, popunjavaju vreme koje vrhunskim i skupim izvođaćima ne mogu da plate. Ja ne mogu više. Sav sam reduktor.

Da li znaš da Super Ball gleda preko 90 miliona ljudi, pa pola minuta reklame košta milion dolara? NFL više zaradi na utakmicama od hamburgera i koka kole, nego neka evropska liga od sezone. Ma, ima više zarade od parkinga.
