Pogledao sam BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN Kena Russella. Ovo je film iz serijala o tajnom agentu Harry Palmeru, o kome je pisao Len Deighton. U kanonskoj fazi, snimljena su tri filma o njemu, a pored Russella režirali su Sidney J. Furie i Guy Hamilton.

Kasnije su snimljena i dva DTV nastavka u kojima je igrao Caine.

BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN je svakako najbolji u seriji. Tokom šezdesetih vrlo često su avangardni filmmejkeri radili špijunske filmove. Već sam pominjao QUILLER MEMORANDUM koji je pisao Harold Pinter i koji vrca od off the wall rešenja.

Međutim, kao reditelj, Russell dovodi celu art priču do totalnog ekscesa. BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN je više Russellov film nego što je klasičan repertoarski naslov. Unutar samih scena na nivou mizanscena, Russell je potpuno raspojasan, u celu priču ubacuje dosta arty slapsticka, ali isto tako svojim vrlo zanimljivim kadriranjem oplemenjuje neke od tipičnih situacija iz ove vrste filmova.

Ukoliko ponekad zamišljamo, kako bi recimo izgledao neki Bond film kada bi ga radio neko tipa Kuste u najboljoj formi, onda je BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN odgovor na to pitanje.

Ono što je još luđe jeste da BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN koliko god ekscentričan jeste zapravo jedan od politički najinteresantnijih filmova u svom žanru. Naime, negativac u ovom filmu je američki penzinoisani general koji je postao naftni magnat i sada pokušava da sruši SSSR tako što će izazvati secesiju Letonije, uz pomoć tamošnjih disidenata od kojih su neki, međutim, ranije bili simpatizeri nacista.

Zvuči poznato?

Tokom Palmerovog susreta sa svojim ruskim kolegom, ovaj mu kaže "Možda želiš da nam neko uništi državu, ali ne želiš da to bude neka banda..." Za razliku od nekih zapadnih vlada kasnije, Harry Palmer se složio sa dežmekastim Sovjetom, i stao je na put ratnom pohodu teksaškog naftnog magnata.

Stoga, kao što su neki autorski filmovi Kena Russella istali večito aktuelni, tako se čini da je imao tu sreću da mu i film, koji bi se mogao smatrati "tezgom" bude aktuelan i dan-danas, i da se jedna hiperstilizovana vizija ispunila u stranosti.

Pogledao sam THE LOVE GURU Marca Schnabela.

Ovaj film je bio planiran kao veliki comeback Mike Myersa, i pokušaj da se sa originalnim materijalom vrati na visine svojih uspešnih franšiza SHREK i AUSTIN POWERS. U tom pokušaju sa ovim filmom nije uspeo, i LOVE GURU ne samo da nije franchise starter nego nije ni bio ni hit, štaviše nije ni vratio uložene pare.

Neuspeh je sasvim opravdan. LOVE GURU svakako nije dobar film, međutim, nije ni toliki promašaj kao što se čini. Štaviše, LOVE GURU je gross out gromada. Myers u njemu uspeva da podigne gross out na nivo autorskog koncepta. Evidentno je da se Myers u ovom filmu sa puno uživanja posvećuje grossoutu koji povremeno dostiže ekstremne razmere i apsolutno prevazilazi rutinsku upotrebu grossouta radi eksploatacije. Za LOVE GURU se može reći sve sem da je reč o rutinskom proizvodu.

Koliko god bizarno zvučalo, u ovom Myers istinski pokušava da istražuje teritoriju grossouta i iako LOVE GURU nije naročito dobar film, sporadično je toliko smešan da zaista potvrđuje Myersa kao jednog od najinteresantnijeg komičara na mejnstrim sceni.

Ne samo da sa ovim filmom potvrđuje svoj status "second best Peter Sellersa" nego zaista čini da sa iščekivanjem pratimo šta će raditi na sledećim projektima. Svi veliki komičari,uključujući i samog Sellersa su snimali filmove koji su povremeno zgražavalči kritiku ali u tim filmovima su probali neke nove stvari koje su kasnije ugradili u klasike. LOVE GURU je takav film.

Inače, ako se ima u vidu potpuni trijumf Boyleovog SLUMDOG MILLIONAIREa i potpuni debakl LOVE GURUa, čini se da je Indija ove godine u raznim domenima obeležila Holivud.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald told a news conference prosecutors make "no allegations" Obama was aware of any alleged scheming.

Blagojevich also was charged with illegally threatening to withhold state assistance to Tribune Co., the owner of the Chicago Tribune, in the sale of Wrigley Field, according to a federal criminal complaint. In return for state assistance, Blagojevich allegedly wanted members of the paper's editorial board who had been critical of him fired.

"We were in the middle of a corruption crime spree and we wanted to stop it," Fitzgerald said Tuesday, calling the corruption charges against Blagojevich "a truly new low."

Federal investigators bugged the governor's campaign offices and placed a tap on his home phone and Chicago FBI chief Robert Grant said even seasoned investigators were "stunned" by what they heard on the tapes.

Blagojevich spokesman Lucio Guerrero said the governor's office did not have immediate comment on the charges but issued a statement saying the "allegations do nothing to impact the services, duties or function of the State."

A 76-page FBI affidavit said the 51-year-old Democratic governor was intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps over the last month conspiring to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti.

Otherwise, Blagojevich considered appointing himself. The affidavit said that as late as Nov. 3, he told his deputy governor that if "they're not going to offer me anything of value I might as well take it."

"I'm going to keep this Senate option for me a real possibility, you know, and therefore I can drive a hard bargain," Blagojevich allegedly said later that day, according to the affidavit, which also quoted him as saying in a remark punctuated by profanity that the seat was "a valuable thing — you just don't give it away for nothing."

The affidavit said Blagojevich also discussed getting a substantial salary for himself at a nonprofit foundation or an organization affiliated with labor unions.

It said Blagojevich also talked about getting his wife placed on corporate boards where she might get $150,000 a year in director's fees.

He also allegedly discussed getting campaign funds for himself or possibly a post in the president's cabinet or an ambassadorship once he left the governor's office. He noted becoming a U.S. senator might remake his image for a possible presidential run in 2016, according to the affidavit. And he allegedly said a Senate seat would also provide him with corporate contacts if he needed a job and present an opportunity for his wife to work as a lobbyist.

"I want to make money," the affidavit quotes him as saying in one conversation.

The affidavit said Blagojevich expressed frustration at being "stuck" as governor and that he would have access to greater resources if he were indicted while in the U.S. Senate than while sitting as governor.

Among those being considered for the Senate post: U.S. Reps. Jesse Jackson Jr., Danny Davis, Jan Schakowsky and Luis Gutierrez; Illinois Senate President Emil Jones and Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth.

The affidavit outlined a Nov. 10 call between Blagojevich, his wife, his chief of staff — John Harris, who also was arrested Tuesday — and a group of advisers in which Harris allegedly suggested working out an agreement with the Service Employees International Union.

Under the plan, Blagojevich would appoint a new senator who would be helpful to the president-elect and in turn get a job as head of Change to Win, a group formed by the union. The union would get an unspecified favor from Obama later.

Nothing in the court papers suggested Obama had any part in the discussion. In fact, Blagojevich allegedly said in the same conversation that Obama most likely would not appoint him as secretary of health and human services or to an ambassadorship because of the negative publicity that has surrounded the governor for three years.

One day later, according to the affidavit, Blagojevich allegedly told an associate he knew Obama wanted a specific Senate candidate but "they're not going to give me anything except appreciation." He finished the remark with an expletive.

Blagojevich also was charged with using his authority as governor in an attempt to squeeze out campaign contributions.

Corruption in the Blagojevich administration has been the focus of a federal investigation involving an alleged $7 million scheme aimed at squeezing kickbacks out of companies seeking business from the state. Federal prosecutors have acknowledged they're also investigating "serious allegations of endemic hiring fraud" under Blagojevich, who has a $177,412 salary, though it's unclear whether he accepts the total.

The governor has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Political fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko who raised money for the campaigns of both Blagojevich and Obama is awaiting sentencing after being convicted of fraud and other charges. Blagojevich's chief fundraiser, Christopher G. Kelly, is due to stand trial early next year on charges of obstructing the Internal Revenue Service.

According to Tuesday's complaint, Blagojevich schemed with Rezko, millionaire-fundraiser turned federal witness Stuart Levine and others to get financial benefits for himself and his campaign committee.

Federal prosecutors said Blagojevich and the chairman of his campaign committee have been speeding up corrupt fundraising activities in the last month to get as much money as possible before the end of the year when a new law would curtail his ability to raise contributions from companies with state contracts worth more than $50,000.

According to the affidavit, agents learned Blagojevich was seeking $2.5 million in campaign contributions by the end of the year, with a large part allegedly to come from companies and individuals who have gotten state contracts or appointments.

The affidavit also outlines Blagojevich conversations related to Tribune Co., which has been hoping to sell Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs which the publishing giant also owns.

Blagojevich was quoted in court papers as telling Harris in a profanity laced Nov. 4 conversation that his recommendation to Tribune executives was to fire the editorial writers "and get us some editorial support."

Harris is quoted as telling the governor Nov. 11 that an unnamed Tribune Owner, presumably CEO Sam Zell, "got the message and is very sensitive to the issue."

The affidavit said Harris quoted a Tribune financial adviser as saying cuts were coming at the newspaper and "reading between the lines he's going after that section," apparently meaning editorial writers. Blagojevich is quoted as saying: "Oh, that's fantastic."

"Wow," Blagojevich allegedly replied. "Keep our fingers crossed. You're the man. Good job, John."

Harris allegedly told Blagojevich in his conversation with the financial adviser he had singled out deputy editorial page editor John McCormick as "somebody who was the most biased and unfair."

After hearing that, Blagojevich allegedly stressed to the head of a Chicago sports consulting firm that it was important to provide state aid for a Wrigley Field sale.

Blagojevich took the chief executive's office in 2003 as a reformer promising to clean up former Gov. George Ryan's mess.

Ryan, a Republican, is serving a 6-year prison sentence after being convicted on racketeering and fraud charges. A decade-long investigation began with the sale of driver's licenses for bribes and led to the conviction of dozens of people who worked for Ryan when he was secretary of state and governor.

FBI spokesman Frank Bochte said federal agents arrested the governor and Harris simultaneously at their homes at 6:15 a.m. and took them to the Chicago FBI headquarters.

He did not have any details about Blagojevich's arrest, only that he was cooperative with federal agents.

"It was a very calm setting," he said.

The governor was to appear Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Nan Nolan to answer the charges.

Podsetio sam se klasika Gorana Markovića MAJSTORI, MAJSTORI! Iako su u istoriji SFRJ filma retka spotless remek-dela, a ovo svakako nije jedno od njih, uprkos svim svojim greškama ovaj naslov spada u sam vrh onoga što je kod nas snimano.

Ovaj film Gorana Markovića pre svega odlikuju jako dobro osmišljena konceptualna rešenja na svim nivoima. Na planu priče, sjajno je rešenje što je film smešten u jedan dan, i što praktično prati 24 sata u jednoj školi u koja prilično uverljivo uspeva da smesti niz događaja koji mahom funkcionišu. Zatim, na planu zapleta, odlično je što se film nadovezuje na prepoznatljivu matricu Gogoljevog REVIZORA što čini da se u priču unese neka vrsta ready made znakovitosti koja proističe iz samog Gogoljevog izvornika.

Zatim, na planu režije, lokacja novosagrađene škole je sjajna. Ne samo da je arhitektura sedamdesetih u Jugoslaviji izuzetno fotogenična nego bi se moglo reći da izgleda istovremeno i kao savršen reprezent duha vremena a istovremeno i kao simbol Jugoslavije kao jedne too good to be true platforme što će ona na kraju postati. U samom filmu, u jednom trenutku direktorka počinje da priča kako je škola počela da se kvari kada je postala savremena, dobila novu zgradu, puno učenika i postala ustanopva za uzor. Zar to nije zapravo prilča o Jugoslaviji koja je u svojoj najdekadentnijoj fazi bila najzabavnija.

Na rediteljskom planu, Marković sve radi školski, vrlo precizno i jasno sa rediteljskom kulturom koju ima malo koji naš reditelj.

O glumačkim bravurama i harizmi stavljenim u funkciju da ne govorimo. U filmu su vrlo odmerene i ozbiljne uloge ostvarili čak i Ljuba Moljac i Zoran Radmilović koji su poznati kao sjajni glumci koji razaraju celinu, dok su Berček i Paja Vuisić prosto ponovili ono što ih čini zvezdama a Semka Sokolović Bertok i Pepi Laković su napravili autentične karaktere. Kad je o radu sa glumcima reč, Goran u ovom trenutku svoje karijere nije imao premca.

Uloga Radeta Markovića u ulozi Miloja je briljantno pripremljena, po uzoru na Gogolju i shodno tome Nušića. "Miloje je sila!", naglašava na početku Pepijev lik i ovaj lik je toliko dobro pripremljen kroz reakcije drugih likova da kada se Rade pojavi zaista dominira.

Ono što je u glumačkom smislu najslabiji deo filma jeste Goranova posveta praškoj školi odnosno radu sa naturščicima, a to je sama Keva koja je prilično nezahvalan lik za naturščika jer je pasivna.

Kad je o slabim delovima reč, i deonica sa Milojem i direktorkom ima tendenciju da bud malo konfuzna pošto Milojeva agenda tu postaje malo nejasna.

Takođe, trebalo je izbaciti i prebukvalnu, i isto tako konfuznu poentu filma sa Berčekovom recitacijom pesme o majstorima koja sve zaokružuje na jedan istovremeno i prebukvalan i nejasan način. Sličan problem Goran ima i u TURNEJI sa monologom Jelene Đokić.

Treći nedostatak je prilično preposterous seksualna praksa profesora fizičkog tarzanofila koja nije ni autentinčno perverzna ni smešna.

Međutim, izvan toga MAJSTORI, MAJSTORI! je zaista izvanredan film koji pokazuje šta je zapravo dalo kredibilitet tadašnjoj i kasnijoj dominaciji praške škole koja nažalost kasnije nije postizala ovakve rezultate a iznedrila je i prilično slabe epigone.

Ipak, njihov uspeh nije potpuno proizvoljan a MAJSTORI, MAJSTORI! jeste jedno od objašnjenja.

Obama isn't accused of anything. But the fact that Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a fellow Democrat, has been charged with trying to sell Obama's now-vacant Senate post gives political opponents an opening to try to link him to the scandal. A slew of questions remain. The investigation is still under way. And the ultimate impact on Obama is far from certain.

He pointedly distanced himself from the case Tuesday, saying, "I had no contact with the governor or his office, and so I was not aware of what was happening" concerning any possible dealing about Blagojevich's appointment of a successor.

In Chicago, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said prosecutors were making no allegations that Obama was aware of any scheming. And Blagojevich himself, in taped conversations cited by prosecutors, suggested that Obama wouldn't be helpful to him. Even if the governor was to appoint a candidate favored by the Obama team, Blagojevich said, "they're not willing to give me anything except appreciation."

Republicans pounced nonetheless.

"The serious nature of the crimes listed by federal prosecutors raises questions about the interaction with Gov. Blagojevich, President-elect Obama and other high ranking officials who will be working for the future president," said Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, the new GOP House whip.

Added Robert M. "Mike" Duncan, chairman of the Republican National Committee, "President-elect Barack Obama's comments on the matter are insufficient at best."

Robert Gibbs, an Obama spokesman, said, "We did not know about this recent part of the investigation until today."

The two Illinois politicians have never been especially close and have largely operated in different Democratic Party camps in the state. Blagojevich's disdain for Obama was clear in court documents; he is quoted as calling the president-elect a vulgar term in one phone conversation recorded by the FBI.

Despite all that, at the very least, the episode amounts to a distraction for Obama just six weeks before he's sworn into office while he works to set up his new administration and deal with a national economic crisis. It also raises the specter of notorious Chicago politics, an image Obama has tried to distance himself from during his career.

In court documents, FBI Special Agent Daniel Cain detailed several phone calls between Blagojevich and his aides that were intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps over the past month. Blagojevich is accused of conspiring to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti. Among his alleged desires: a Cabinet post, placement at a private foundation in a significant position, campaign contributions or an ambassadorship.

There were signs the continuing investigation could still involve Obama.

It appears that Obama friend Valerie Jarrett, an incoming senior White House adviser, is the person referred to repeatedly in court documents as "Candidate 1." That individual is described as a woman who is "an adviser to the president-elect" and as the person Obama wanted appointed to the Senate seat. Court papers say that Candidate 1 eventually removed herself from consideration for the Senate seat.

Blagojevich talked at length about Candidate 1 in a Nov. 11 phone conversation with an aide.

One day later, Jarrett, a Chicago businesswoman who is one of three co-chairmen of Obama's transition team and was a high-level adviser to his presidential campaign, made it known that she was not interested in the seat. On Nov. 15, Obama announced that Jarrett would be a senior White House adviser and assistant for intergovernmental relations.

Obama's circle of major Illinois political allies and supporters is largely separate from Blagojevich's, with two major exceptions. Both Obama and Blagojevich got extensive money and support from Chicago businessman Antoin "Tony" Rezko, who is awaiting sentencing after being convicted in June on charges of using clout with Blagojevich's administration to help launch a $7 million kickback scheme. And Obama is close to Illinois Senate President Emil Jones, who has been the governor's staunchest legislative ally.

At least one top aide to Obama, Michael Strautmanis, previously worked for Blagojevich. Obama has appointed Strautmanis to serve as White House chief of staff to the presidential assistant for intergovernmental relations and public liaison. The Chicago native was legislative director and counsel to Blagojevich when the governor was a member of Congress and then helped Blagojevich win the governorship in 2002. There is no indication that Strautmanis is involved in the case.

More details on the case could be forthcoming.

Court documents say they don't include all calls dealing with the governor's efforts regarding the Senate appointment. And many people in the documents are referred to by aliases; there's little doubt their identities will eventually surface.

Pogledao sam HOW TO LOSE FRIENDS & ALIENATE PEOPLE Roberta B. Weidea.

Ne samo da je output Simona Pegga kada ne radi sa Edgar Wrightom, očekivano slabiji od nivoa koji su zajedno uspostavili nego mi se čini da je iznenađujuće bled čak i za neke prosečne standarde produkcija u kojima se Pegg kreće. Naime, neverovatno je da Pegg kada se već opredelio za žanr romantične komedije koji je generalno vrlo razvijen, naročito u Britaniji odakle on dolazi, mahom glumi u naslovima koji su ispod proseka čak i u okvirima žanra, dok u nekom širem kontekstu uopšte ni ne mogu da privuku pažnju.

HOW TO LOSE za razliku od RUN FATBOY RUN barem pokušava da bude solidna classy produkcija, ali to ne uspeva da ga izleči od toga da je suštinski potpuno besmislen i šupalj film. Ne samo da ne uspeva da prevaziđe konvencije romcoma što uporno pokušava, nego ne uspeva ni da ih dostigne.

Simon Pegg u svemu tome, uspeva da unese izvesnu harizmu i pokrene stvari, ali HOW TO LOSE je tipičan primer velikog talenta zarobljenog u projektu koji je daleko isod njegovih mogućnosti. U jednoj od kritika, Simona Pegga porede sa Dudley Mooreom, i da, kada se pogledaju projekti bez Wrighta, Pegg ima sličnu putanju sjajnog talenta u mediokritetskom materijalu.

HOW TO LOSE je gledljiv, ali svakako nije film na Peggovom nivou, niti je film koji mu je bio potreban u ovoj fazi.

Frontmen Smashing Pumpkinsa Billy Corgan najavio je da njegov bend više neće objavljivati albume i da će se u buduće usredsrediti na singlove.

"Sa albumima smo završili. Nema svrhe. Ljudi ih čak uopšte ne slušaju. Stave ih na iPod, prevuku dva singla i ostalo preskoče", rekao je Corgan Chicago Tribuneu.

On je dodao da bend neće više svirati u velikim dvoranama i da će prestati da se oslanja na stare hitove.

Corganu smeta to što ljudi smatraju da su Pumpkinsi odsvirali svoje.

Oliver Stone has been at work for six months on an untitled documentary about Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says Variety.

The doco will not focus on the dramatic rescue of hostages from the militant Columbian FARC group that Chavez helped to broker in February, Stone himself was .

Rather its subject will be the opposition Chavez has faced at home and abroad with his populist socialism reforms, especially from the Bush administration.

It will also cover the 'South American revolution', a trend of leftist politicians being elected to office in Latin America this decade.

Stone hopes to have it ready for next year.

Pogledao sam dugo očekivani JCVD Mabrouka El Mechrija, courtesy of Ginger. Ovaj film je bio dugo i ozbiljno iščekivan pošto se činili da je El Mechri otkrio Sveti Gral filmova sa Van Dammeom u ovoj fazi.

Naime, El Mechri je u ovom filmu pretendovao da adresuje dve ključne opsesije Van dammeovih fanova a to je a) zašto Van Damme kad toliko snima ne pokuša da snimi dobar film b) zašto neko ne pokuša da snimi film o Van Dammeovom životu koji je ionako zanimljiviji od zapleta njegovih renectnih filmova.

Nažalost, El Mechri je samo dotakao ove dve premise a onda je obe upropastio vodeći se sličnim mehanizmom kojim se vodio i Van Damme dok je uništavao svoju karijeru. Prvi kliše pod koji je Van Damme potpao bio je pokušaj da posle par promašaja u najuzbudljivijoj i najkreativnojoj deonici svoje karijere, pokuša da se oživi nastavkom svog najvećeg hita UNIVERSAL SOLDIER, čime se totalno pokopao, a drugi kliše je navlačenje na kokain zbog koga su članovi ekipe nazivali Van Dammea Van Gram. Dakle, Van Damme je čovek klišea koji je propao ponavljajući uspele forme svojih uspelih filmova i poznate klišee sunovrata velikih zvezda.

El Mechri je ponovio slične klišee tako što je svoj film strukturirao kao što kažu kalupi post-RESERVOIR DOGS indie filma, na nejasnoj razmeđi između meta i repertoarskog filma, sa nepotrebnom mešavinom fantazije i realizma, pseudo-anrovske priče i filma-eseja, pokušavši da jedan naslov ugura sve moguće ready made postavke Sundance filma.

Samim tim JCVD je frustrirajući film zato što kako koji sekund odmiče tako se ovaj film udaljava od ogormnog kvaliteta koji je mogao da ima.

Na kraju, postaje čak i prilično mučan nezavisni film u kome negativni apsekti dominiraju nad pozitivnim.

Međutim, svežina koncepta a u kontekstu Van Dammeovog trenutnog stanja omogućuje da se ovaj naslov posmatra kao neka vrsta preokreta u njegovoj karijeri. Naravno da pravi fanovi znaju još od Ringo Lamovog REPLICANTa da on zna da glumi, no lepo je da ovaj festivalski hit sa tim upozna i kritiku koja ne prati DTV ponudu.

Nažalost, El Mechri, koliko god da je uspeo na nivou gimmicka, nije uspeo da istinski snimi bolji filmod onoga što Van damme sada snima. Međutim, iza žaljenja nad propuštenom prilikom ipak ostaje osmeh na licima fanova koji su sada sa ovim prehvaljenim filmom, a koji je u suštini lošiji od mnogih DTV naslova, dobili potvrdu da ni Van Dammeov uspeh niti njegov neuspeh nisu bazirani na realnim rezultatima.

I to je negde tačno, Van Damme je u DTV fazi snimio naslove poput SECOND IN COMMAND, REPLICANT ili IN HELL koji su bolji od njegovih najvećih komercijalnih hitova iz theatrical faze, da ne govorim o tome da je Van Damme bio učilo u holivudskim debijima John Wooa, Tsui Harka i Ringo Lama a da je recimo potpuno zaboravljeni KNOCK OFF jedan izuzetan film u njegovom opusu.  

Stoga, JCVD će nadam se Van Dammeu doneti još poneku respektabilnu ulogu u Evropi, u koju bi, a imajući u vidu uspon francuske i ruske industrije industrije akcijaša trebalo i da se preseli.

Pogledao sam BABYLON AD Mathieu Kassovitza. Moram priznati da me je ovaj film prijatno iznenadio iako mi se sasvim jasno zašto je Kassovitz napravio onoliku frku u vreme izlaska i distancirao se od filma.

U BABYLON ADu krije se Kassovitzov pokušaj da sa holivudskim zvezdama snimi dvoipočasovni genrebending epic koji će možda biti slavljen kao remek-delo a možda i ismejan u Kanu, ali će u svakom slučaju delo biti delo koje je po svojim dimenzijama dostojno ovog nekadašnjeg vunderkinda francuskog filma. I kassovitz je u ovoj priči video priliku da snimi tako nešto. Holivud je i u toj priči a i kasnije kad je pogledao materijal video nešto drugo, SF akcIjaš od 90 minuta sa Vin Dieselom i to je na kraju i prikazao u Americi (to je verzja koju sam i ja gledao).

Iskreno rečeno, iako je sasvim jasno koje su deonice skraćivane, kao i da određeni likovi nemaju razrešenje, ova verzija od 90 minuta je sasvim legitimna. Ipak, s druge strane, sasvim je jasno šta intimno smeta Kassovitzu u njoj. On je naprosto želeo da BABYLON AD bude njegov FIFTH ELEMENT a na kraju je ispalo da je to njegov TRANSPORTER. I ta degradacija od pokušaja da snimi film kao Besson a da na kraju izgleda kao Bessonov minion ga je dotukla.

Ipak, BABYLON AD je vrlo dinamičan i simpatičan film, naročito u prvoj polovini dok se dšava u bivšem Sovjetskom Savezu pošto je to lokacija koja koliko god da je česta u novijim akcijašima, retko kada je dobro realizovana a ovde jeste. U tom segmentu ima niz dinamičnih scena poput recimo prenošenja automobila helikopterom što je inače direktno preuzeto iz igre MERCENARIES na koju me je navukao Meho, čak je vrlo slično i kadrirano.

Isto tako, scena sa nuklearnom podmornicom koja prevozi izbeglice je sjajna.

Iako hand-to-hand combat nije Kassovitzova jača strana, BABYLON AD u celom svom toku odaje utisak jedne solidne classy produkcije. Štaviše, pažljiva realizacija određenih scena, naročito tretman enterijera upravo pokazuje ono po čemu se izdvajaju evropski reditelji kad je reč o kreiranju atmosfere.

Što se gejminga tiče, nekoliko setova neverovatno podsećaju na setove iz igara i čini se da ih je Kassovitz koristio kao referencu. Ipak, za razliku od Paula Andersona, kod njega igre nimalo ne utiču na dramaturgiju filma.

U svakom slučaju, ja sam na onim nivoima na kojima je to moguće zaista uživao u BABYLON AD.

Pogledao sam RESIDENT EVIL: DEGENERATION Makoto Kamiye, i beskrajno sam uživao. Doduše, ja sam fan i RESIDENT EVIL filmova, i Andersonovog i Wittovog i Mulcahyjevog. Ipak, DEGENERATION je ne samo odličan animirani dodatak ovim filmovima već se može posmatrati kao ravnopravan naslov.

Meha bi moglo zanimati to što je scenarista ovog filma Shotaro Suga pisao i igru DEVIL MAY CRY 4.

Iako se ni po budžetu, ni po ambiciji ne može porediti s BEOWULFom, DEGENRATION ima dosta skičnosti sa ovim filmom Roberta Zemeckisa. Naime, bespoštedna akcija koju omogućuje animacija je u ovom filmu dovedena do savršenstva, i što se ambicije u akcionim scenama tiče, retko koji aktuelni igrenjak može da mu parira ne samo po sadržaju akcionih scena nego i po kadriranju.

Kamiya zaista briljantno kadrira akcione scene i svaka od njih je vrlo razrađen set-piece što se retko sreće u animiranim filmovima, a upravo je BEOWULF dobar primer toga. Dok je mo-cap odličan, performace capture je daleko slabiji od BEOWULFa, međutim kada krenu akcione scene, DEGENERATION uopšte ne zaostaje previše.

Još je zanimljivije to što u akcionim scenama Kamiya zaista jako ozbiljno kadrira i nema previše iživljavanja sa pokretima kamere koji su u animiranim ambijentu mogući. Kamiya je na nivou izraza izrazito funkcionalan, i vrlo mudro koristi tehniku koja mu je na raspolaganju.

Što se scenarija tiče, on je vrlo rudimentaran kad je reč o osnovnom zapletu filma, međutim unutar tri čina filma, unutar samih scena, film je jako dobro napisan i osmišljen, a scenarista se odlično izmakao Kamiyi i prepustio mu da puca penale.

Obe akcione scene na aerodromu (uz eho Pekićevog BESNILA) i završna u high tech zgradi korporacije koja je nasledila Umbrellu su sjajno scenaristički postavljene na nivou odnosa likova, koji Kamiya zaista sjajno inkrporira u širu akcionu sliku.

Iako ova animacija nije po svom tonu toliko horor koliko akcijaš, i nije mnogo bliža igra od filmova, Kamiya upeva da napravi i odličan horor momenat koji je u neku ruku filmovima izmicao u monumentalnoj sceni kada inficirani ljudi tupavo izlaze iz olupine aviona. Film obiluje takvim off the wall momentima koji čine da DEGENERATION apsolutno prevazilazi nivo animiranog spin-offa RESIDENT EVIL serije.

Štaviše, nadam se da će producenti istrajati i da će sa ovom ekipom raditi još animiranih filmova na ovu temu, odnosno da neće odustati kao producenti animirane serije STARSHIP TROOPERS.

Da priča nije tako lapidarna u odnosu na RESIDENT EVIL univerzum, DEGENERATION bi imao punokrvni theatrical potencijal, a čini mi se da bi ga mogao imati i sada na tržištima gde je RE serija filmova i igara jako popularna. U Japanu je imao limited release u bioskopima i zaradio je 300ak hiljada dolara.

U svakom slučaju DEGENERATION mi je jedno od najprijatnijih iznenađenja ove sezone. Jedini razlog zašto nije dobio veću ocenu je to što su autori prepričali neke bitne stvari za rasplet priče koje bi po meni morale da budu pokazane čime je, čini se svesno, umanjen theatrical potencijal i generalni "umetnički dojam" filma.

Stephen Norrington ("Blade," "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen") will write and direct a reinvention of "The Crow" for Relativity Media reports Variety.

James O'Barr's comic followed musician Eric Draven who is murdered trying to rescue his girlfriend from thugs, and returns from the dead one year later to exact vengeance.

Relativity is in negotiations with producer Ed Pressman to acquire the film franchise and finance the film.

Pressman produced the 1994 Alex Proyas-directed adaptation which became infamous for the death of its star Brandon Lee during production.

Proyas' gothic and stylized take will be replaced by a hard-edged, realistic "almost documentary-style" mystery says Norrington.

Šta znam... Simpatično ovo izgleda, možda čak kroz zube procedim i lepo, ali za mene hajlender nije hajlender ako se kao čovek ne lati mača. Mada nisam gledao Degeneration, rekao bih da je prebacivanje RE u format (tihim glasom) * crtanih filmova * nije toliko problematičan jerbo je RE to što jeste, još od prvog dela. Sa druge strane, animirani hajlender gubi onaj retro-junački šmek koji je onomad imao (ako izuzmemo zaista traljav drugi deo zbog blejdranerovskog okruženja) i čini mi se kao nešto što mi moj klinac gurnuo u DVD posle (krišom odrađenog) gledanja Naruta. Da se ne zove Highlander, od mene bi ovo bilo mlaka-do-podgrejana preporuka, a ovako... procenite sami.

Da li sam spomenuo da moja malenkost u suštini ne voli, da ne kažem gadi se, anime? Nisam? Fuck. Taman je ovo zaličilo na half-assed rivju.

Znam da su išli ali nisam znao na kojoj tivi. Video sam bio u nekom trenutku da se emituje kad još ja nisam počeo da gledam. No, to meni ne menja ništa. Ja samo domaće serije gledam na tivi, ostalo ionako nabavljam na nekoj vrsti gomile.

What's it like when your grandpa is the richest man in the world? For Nicole Buffett, it means forgoing cable TV and health insurance and making do on $40,000 a year. Here, she dishes on her upbringing and why her grandfather Warren Buffett disowned her.

Nicole Buffett is at home among the neo-hippies who shuffle along the laid-back, tree-lined streets of Berkeley, CA. At an elfin 5 feet tall, clad in a flowing peasant dress and sandals adorned with peace signs, her long hair cascading in ropy dreadlocks to her waist, the 32-year-old abstract painter is just another of the city's free-thinking, granola-crunching denizens. And yet, she's a walking oddity. "The first thing most people think of when they hear my last name is money," she laughs.

Not just money — gobs of it. Nicole Buffett's grandfather is the legendary investor Warren Buffett, whose $58 billion fortune made him the richest man on the planet, a mantle he seized from Bill Gates last fall. So deep are Buffett's pockets that when the financial markets cratered in September, the so-called Oracle of Omaha single-handedly buoyed Wall Street (at least for a day) by plunking down $5 billion on troubled investment bank Goldman Sachs. ("Canonize Warren Buffett," cried one headline on CNBC's Website.) But there's a bitter irony to Buffett's beneficence. Wall Street's white knight is also an unforgiving hardhead when it comes to his own granddaughter, whom he cut off two years ago after a falling-out. "For him to discard me like that was devastating," Nicole says matter-of-factly. "It permanently divided our family."

When Nicole was 4, her singer-songwriter mother married Warren Buffett's youngest child, Peter, a composer for commercials and films. He later adopted Nicole and her identical twin sister, who were embraced as kin by the larger Buffett family — especially Susan, Warren's first wife, an avid music lover and cabaret performer. "A lot of people don't realize that my family is full of artists," says Nicole. (Susan Buffett, who died in 2004, was an early buyer of Nicole's art and named Nicole one of "my adored grandchildren" in her will.)

As a child, Nicole made regular visits to "Grandpa's" modest home in Omaha, where he still lives, purchased in 1958 for $31,500. Despite the humble digs, Nicole remembers the occasional spoils of Buffett's wealth. At Christmas, when she was 5, he gave her a crisp $100 bill from his wallet. Once, she was invited on a private tour of the See's Candies factory he owned. And twice yearly, Peter Buffett packed up his brood for a vacation at his father's compound in Laguna Beach. Nicole also remembers once tiptoeing into her grandfather's study to fetch something, careful not to disturb him while he read the Wall Street Journal. Just as she turned to slip out, Buffett cleared his throat and said, "Nicole, I just want you to know that your grandmother and I are very proud of all that you've accomplished as an artist." "It's a really big deal for him to communicate on such an emotional level," says Nicole, her eyes welling. "So it was a big deal for me."

Nicole was clueless about the scope of the Buffett fortune until she was 17, when her grandfather appeared on the cover of Forbes for having topped the magazine's annual list of the richest Americans. Her classmates nearly stampeded her at school with the news. "I called my dad, and he said, 'Yeah, Grandpa is going to be getting a lot more press, and we're going to have to get used to that. But we'll be living our lives the same way and doing what we always do,'" Nicole says.

In fact, the national media debut only intensified Buffett's efforts to preserve his unaffected lifestyle. Aware of the unfairness of what he calls "the ovarian lottery," Buffett made clear to the family that there'd be no handouts. "For most people, your life is largely determined by the wealth you were — or weren't — born into," Nicole explains. "But our family was supposed to be a meritocracy." That philosophy translated into a near-fanatical devotion to living like regular Joes. Buffett's kids went to public schools and, when they were old enough to drive, shared the family car. "You wouldn't guess it, but I grew up in a household with my parents saying, 'If you're fortunate enough to find something you love, then do it,'" says Peter Buffett.

Committed to instilling those homespun values in his grandkids, Buffett agreed to pay for their college educations — and nothing more. He picked up the six-figure tab for Nicole's art school tuition. Once, Nicole called her grandfather's office to ask if he'd help her buy a futon when she moved to an off-campus apartment. "You know what the rules are: school expenses only," his secretary told her.

Four years ago, following Susan's death, Buffett showed up for his family's annual Christmas gathering clad in a garishly over-the-top red tracksuit and Santa hat, a gift from "Arnie" (California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger). Everyone laughed at the absurdity of it all. When the holiday ended, Nicole raced into Buffett's arms. "We're not a touchy-feely family, so when I did it, the rest of the family seemed a little surprised," Nicole says, beaming. "But he gave me this great big hug back."

It was the last time the pair would share an embrace. Two years later, Nicole agreed to appear in The One Percent, a documentary by Johnson & Johnson heir Jamie Johnson about the gap between rich and poor in America. "I've been very blessed to have my education taken care of, and I have had my living expenses taken care of while I'm in school," she states on camera. None of the Buffetts, a famously press-averse bunch, had ever before appeared in so public a forum to dish about their upbringing. Though Nicole informed her father of her role in the film and he had no objections, she failed to give her grandfather a heads-up. Asked in the film how he'd react to her interview, Nicole responds, "I definitely fear judgment. Money is the spoke in my grandfather's wheel of life."

Nicole concedes that the remarks may have sounded brusque. "I meant that my grandfather is like a Formula One driver who only wants to race — he just loves the game and wants to be the best," she says. But Buffett was galled. He had for some time felt ambivalent about Nicole and her sister's claim to his fortune — though Peter had legally adopted them, he divorced their mother in 1993 and remarried three years later. To make matters worse, while plugging the film on Oprah, Nicole confessed, "It would be nice to be involved with creating things for others with that money and to be involved in it. I feel completely excluded from it."

The perceived sense of entitlement and Nicole's self-appointed role as family spokesperson prompted Buffett to tell Peter that he'd renounce her. A month later, the mega-billionaire mailed Nicole a letter in which he cautioned her about the pitfalls of the Buffett name: "People will react to you based on that 'fact' rather than who you are or what you have accomplished." He punctuated the letter by declaring, "I have not emotionally or legally adopted you as a grandchild, nor have the rest of my family adopted you as a niece or a cousin." Nicole was devastated. "He signed the letter 'Warren,'" she says. "I have a card from him just a year earlier that's signed 'Grandpa.'"

But Buffett's decision was irrevocable. "I don't have an easy answer for where my father is coming from," says Peter Buffett, who speaks to Nicole regularly. "But I know I can't change the spots on a leopard." Jamie Johnson convinced Nicole to tape a follow-up interview, which he added as an emotional postscript to his film. "To pretend like we don't have a familial relationship is not based in reality. I've spent years of my life at his home in Omaha. I'm shocked and hurt," Nicole says.

Now, despite her sterling surname, Buffett is getting by on $40,000 or so a year, largely on the sale of her paintings (collectors include Shirley Temple's daughter Lori Black and Hollywood special-effects guru Scott Ross). There's no denying that the Buffett name piques interest in the art world, where Nicole's pieces have fetched as much as $8000. One of her techniques is to leave unfinished works outside, exposed to the elements. "I like to see what happens," she says, hovering over canvases mottled with sunbursts of color.

Nicole supplements her income by working at a San Francisco boutique, but still can't afford cable or health insurance. Since their falling-out, Buffett has begun mailing sizable Christmas checks to his grandchildren, despite his no-freebies rule. Even so, Nicole vigorously insists that she has no regrets. "I think it shows he's trying to reach out to his grandkids in a more personal way," she says, before pausing. "And probably he's rewarding them for behaving."

In the two years since they last spoke, Nicole has been besieged by her grandfather's image. "I can't turn on the TV or read the paper without seeing him," she says, referring to his role in the Wall Street bailout and as Barack Obama's adviser during his presidential bid. She dreams about a reconciliation, however unlikely. Still, she says she'll never stop being a Buffett. "I will always be self-reliant," she says, curled up on her couch, her dreadlocks draping her body like a quilt. "Grandpa taught me that, and it has set the tone for my life."

Zahvaljujući Gingeru, podsetio sam se jednog od graddaddyja conspiracy filma CAPRICORN ONE Peter Hyamsa.

Gledajući njegove naslove iz sedamdesetih, počinjem da shvatam te očetne uspehe koji su doveli Hyamsa do pozicije u Holivudu koja me je kasnije mahom nervirala. Nije Hyams oduvek bio mediokritet. Pored BUSTINGa, dobar primer toga je upravo CAPRICORN ONE.

Hyams je pisao scenario za ovaj film u kome meša rollercoaster poteru sa paranoia trilerom u kome se iskazuje skepsa prema establišmentu, nasleđena iz naslova kao što su PARALLAX VIEW. Naravno, CAPRICORN ONE nije toliko pretenciozan kao Pakula ali kao što se ovaj na mala vrata bavi ubistvima Kenneddyjevih, i Hyams ekranizuje jednu od najčuvenijih teorija zavere a to je teorija da ljudi nkad nisu sleteli na Mesec nego da je sve inscenirano u TV studiju.

U ovom slučaju, on govori o futurističkoj misiji na Mars. U samom zapletu Hyams uspeva da postavi jednu briljantno crnohumornu postavku, a to je kako jedna poluplemenita prevara može da postane fatalna i kako lako pozitivni junaci, čak i heroji mogu postati ubice.

Iako je reč o filmu koji u početku ima vrlo komplikovan zaplet, Hyams uspeva da drći relativnu relaksiranost u glumačkoj igri kroz ceo film i da je podrži duhovitim dijalozima.

Šteta je samo što film biva ispušten u razrešenju gde postaje previše neuverljiv, pa gotovo i banalan u svom avanturističkom štihu. Međutim, i kada nastupi taj raspad, ono što su aduti su dobro postavljeni likovi i neke maestralno inscenirane akcione scene.

Naročito je sugestivna upotreba helikoptera MD-500 koji su u istoriji filma poznati kao simbol demonskih futurističkih letilica. Iako ovaj helikopter ne spada u sam vrhunac ponude na tržištu u samom realnom svetu helikoptera, i nije vrhunska borbena mašina, zbog svog futurističkog, gigerovskog dizajna je masovno korišćen na filmu i to  mahom kao mašina koju koriste negativci.

Recimo, u filmu FIRE BIRDS terorista vozi MD-500 protiv Cobri i Apachea i svi imaju silne muke da ga pobede iako bi ga u stvarnosti oduvali sa neba. Ovaj dizajn star 40 godina još uvek uzbuđuje filmmejkere.

A Hyams je među prvima fetišizovao ovaj helikopter, i u jednoj sceni maltene uspeva da ostvari utisak kao da dve mašine ovog tipa komuniciraju među sobom i ta scena jeste jedan od vrhunskih primera filmmejkinga u kome autor uspeva da mašini da utisak duše.

CAPRICORN ONE je izuzzetno zanimljiv, vrhunski realizovan film koji uprkos svojim brojnim pre svega dramaturškim nedostacima stoji i dan-danas. Upravo su ti nedostaci ono što autorima naja+vljenog rimejka daju za pravo da pokušaju i da ga usavrše u drugom pokušaju.

Inače, kad smo već kod FIRE BIRDS, a i igre MERCENARIES, pominjanje MD-500 u kontekstu Severne Koreje nije greška. Štaviše, reč je o jednom od retkih tačnih prikaza vazduhoplovstava.

Naime, evo priče

500D: The MD Helicopters 500D is a civilian helicopter which North Korea imported in 1985 by circumventing United States export controls. Ironically, the airframe of the 500D was manufactured in South Korea, was assembled in the United States, and was purchased through a German export firm. The 500D has no attack capabilities, but it can be easily modified to assume the role of a gunship. Of the 87 500Ds North Korea imported, at least 60 are said to be modified in this manner. Although a modified 500D would be effective in the anti-personnel role, it only has a marginal chance of deterring lightly armored vehicles, so it is likely that the 500D would be used in a defensive role or employ guerilla tactics. With a range of 605 km, the 500D should be capable of scouting much of the Korean Peninsula. However, as the civilian version lacks a radar, its role as an observation helicopter would be limited. The ROKA operates a military variant of the 500D known as the 500MD, which could lead to deceptive operations by the North Koreans if their 500Ds were painted with ROKA livery and infiltrated South Korea. Although there are slight differences between the airframes of the 500D and the 500MD, it would be difficult to differentiate between them if a soldier is unfamiliar with the differences or if the helicopter were flying at high speeds. However, this problem could be resolved if an IFF system is implemented, thereby further limiting the 500D's role as an observation helicopter.

Pogledao sam TRANSPORTER 3 Olivier Megatona, courtesy of Ginger.

Dovoljno me poznajete da znate kako je reći da mi je RANSPORTER 3 jedan od najočekivanijih filmova godine understatement. Puno sam očekivao od novog TRANSPORTERa i mogu reći da sam deo toga i dobio.

Za Olivier Megatona sam znao da je najslabiji u Bessonovoj rediteljskoj ekipi. Njegov film sa jean Marc Barrom i Asiom Argento SIRENE ROUGE je bio prilično slab, a s duge strane, koliko god da mi je HITMAN bio drag, a na njemu je Megaton asistirao Gensu, to je bila jedna od slabije realizovanih Bessonovih produkcija.

Iako je meni prvi TRANSPORTER bi cool, iako ništanaročito, drugi je zaista dao naročit kvalitet seriji. Louis letterier ga ja zaista maestralno napravio i tek sa drugim delom je serija dobila identitet a Louis je i završio u Holivudu snimajući HULKa i započinjući mainstream karijeru. TRANSPORTER2 je isto tako bio u Stathamov uvod u ozbiljan action stardom koji je potom zacementiran CRANKom.

Treći TRANSPORTER je slabiji od drugog, ali što se mene tiče, bolji od prvog dela. Ipak, ove sezone, nije uspeo da bude najbolji Besson-related akcijaš, tu titulu ipak zadržava maestralni Morelov TAKEN. Očiglwedno je kako TRANSPORTER 3 nailazi na razne prepreke koje mu onemogućuju da se istakne.

Ipak, rekao bih da je TRANSPORTER 3 sasvim solidan film. Megaton, kao najslabiji reditelj u serijalu čini da se vide mnogi šavovi u rediteljskom postupku. Recimo, dopušta da ima dve vrlo slične fistfight scene, u jednoj poteri je vrlo očigledno da su slike ubrzane (kako se inače i rade automobilske potere, s tim što se kod majstora to ubrzavanje ne provaljuje), ima najslabije međuljudske odnose u priči, no isto tako u finišu filma isporučuje izvanredna dva set-piecea, sa padom Stathama u reku kojom prilikom ne sme da se odvoji od automobila koji tone, i napad Stathama kolima na voz koji je ludicrous u najboljoj tradiciji drugog dela i moćno urađen.

Inače, TRANSPORTER 3 se dosta oslanja na WEDLOCK koncept narukvice koja onemogućuje junake da se udaljavaju od kola i jedni od drugih, čime se približava koncepciji CRANKa. Postoji čak jedna scena kada Statham pokušava da sustigne auto koji su preoteli koja je vrlo solidna i kao da je preuzeta iz CRANKa.

Ono što je takođe vrlo zanimlivo to je da Megaton još i više od Paul WS Andersona koristi Stathamovu moćnu figuru i u TRANSPORTERu 3 ima još više scena u kojima je Statham u old school maniru go do pojasa. I zaista Statham je verovatno posldnji akcioni heroj koji ima impresivnu fizičku pojavu, naravno ne u maniru Slya i Arnieja, ali definitivno u nekom novomilenijumskom obliku toga. Slično, Arnieju, Statham se trudi da u domenu akcijaša radi što zanimljivije high concpt naslove, kao što je u najboljim danima radio i Arnie, s tim što sama indusrija više nije onako vitalna kao što je bila u njegovo vreme, i lako se sklizne u DTV.

Kao što postoje deonice koje vuku na CRANK tako i napad kolima na voz ima eho Timurovog WANTEDa s tim što je WANTED naravno skuplji i ambiciozniji u toj deonici.

No, TRANSPORTER 3 jeste ono što je nedostajalo fanovima akcionog filma ove sezone, jedan solidan fiks prljave akcije sa harizmatičnom zvezdom. Nadam se da će ukupni zbir omogućiti da se ova serija nastavi.

napustio sam 99F posle pola sata; nemam bre živaca da gledam film koji me ne dotiče ni na kakvom dubinskom nivou, niti me adekvatno zabavlja svojom površinom da bih ga gledao sat i po -dva: satirizovanje modernog marketinga, nehumanosti kapitalizma, korporacija, amoralnog mentaliteta itd itd. – sve je to bičevanje mrtvog konja, meni su potrebne jače droge, manje očigledne žrtve i pristupi.

Tek sad si ga pogledao, a mislio sam da ja kasnim sa Before the Devil Knows You're Dead... Odličan film, po mojoj tarifi Tsotsi je za 4+, a imaš i poodavno napisanu kritiku na Popboksu, mislim da mu je Kristina dala maksimalnu ocenu...

Posle dugogodišnje potrage, konačno sam uspeo da lociram filmove o Matt Helmu. Serija filmova o matt Hlmu je Columbijin pokušaj da istovremeno parodira i reinterpretira Bobnda kraje šezdesetih. Nastala su četiri filma sa Dean Martinom u glavnoj ulozi a piotom i TV serija sa Anthony Franciosom.

U ovom periodu bilo je još nekoliko pokušaja da se bondolika koncepcija odvuče u nekom drugom pravcu. U Americi su bili Matt Helm i ultrapsihodelični filmovi  o Flintu sa James Coburnom, u Britaniji harry Palmer sa Michael Caineom i sl. Bond je bio fenomen koji je zaista inspirisao ne samo druge studije nego i sam United Artist da ga replicira.

Matt Helm je baziran na romanima Donalda Hamiltona i ukratko bi se mogao opisati kao rat packovski susret s Bondom, pun humora, ili pokušaja humora, poigravanja sa Helmovim alkoholizmom, pošto ga igra Dean Martin, pevanja ili slušanja Dinovih pesama i sporadično vrlo zanimljive akcije.

Iako je AUSTIN POWERS nominalno parodija na Bonda, u suštini Matt Helm je mnogo veći uzor, pošto je zbog Dina ceo hedonistički život ovog superagenta doveden do paroksizma.

Ono što je meni bilo takođe zanimljivo jeste to da su partnerke Matta Helma, iako nude znatno vulgarniju seksualnost od Bondovih, u suštini mnogo upečatljivije. Stella Stevens u THE SILENCERS je uspela da napravi sjajan i upečatljiv karakter i da Dinu ukrade show, dok je Ann-Margret u MURDERERS ROW takođe vrlo solidna.

Za sada sam pogledao prva dva filma THE SILENCERS i MURDERERS ROW iz 1966. Prvi je režirao Phila karlson, kasnije jedan od godfathera exploitation filma, a drugi je radio Henry Levin, jedan od iskusnijih holivudskih rutinera koji je radio sve i svašta u svojoj karijeri.

U THE SILENCERS bih istakao Stellu Stevens koja je napravila sjajnu komičnu ulogu, kao i neka rešenja u postavci doomsday plota koja su kasnije citirana u Bondu, pa čak i neka scenografska rešenja koja su kasnije preslikana u igri FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, iako nisu nikada viđena u Bond filmovima. I uopšte reklo bi se da je Helm dosta uticao na Bonda kasnije, iako nijedan od Helm filmova suštinski ne dostiže Bonda.

MURDERES ROW je intresantniji u akcionom smislu i ima internacionalne lokacije za razliku od SILENCERSa koji je smešten u Americi. U domenu potpunog austinpowersovskog kempa jesu scene kada Dino otkriva instituciju diskoteke.

U MURDERERS ROW negativca igra karl malden, kao i godinu dana kasnije u BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN o kome sam već pisao. Iako filmovi o Helmu zaista bude nostalgiju za dekadentnim Technicolorom, poređenje između ovih filmova i onoga što Ken Russell radi u filmu o Harry Plameru, koliko je zaista Stari Holivud bio na izdisaju i van svih tokova u odnosu na potencijale filmsog izraza u tom trenutku.

Naravno, danas, kada je to sve retro, sve deluje nekako drago, ali ovakva poređenja žanrovski bliskih filmova odlično pokazuju okolnosti u kojima je Novi Holivud postao nužnost.

Oba filma o Matt Helmu koja sam do sad pogledao, dobijaju

Based on Leo Tolstoy's novella "The Death of Ivan Ilyich", "ivans xtc" (pronounced "Ivan's Ecstasy") was inspired in part by Jay Moloney, the CAA agent and legendary Hollywood figure who, after succumbing to cocaine addiction, hanged himself in 1999.

But it is also an attempt by Bernard Rose to free himself from the Hollywood machine that butchered his 1997 adaptation of "Anna Karenina".

Shot on high definition digital video, "ivans xtc" opens with news of the death of Ivan Beckman (Huston), a charming, charismatic talent agent at the peak of his powers.

Flashing back "Citizen Kane"-style, it then recreates Ivan's final days, in which the triumph of wooing action man Don West (Weller) to his agency is juxtaposed by the sudden discovery that he is suffering from inoperable lung cancer.

Alienated from his family and estranged from his producer girlfriend (Enos), Ivan embarks on a binge of drugs and sex - tellingly held in the same hotel suite where Fatty Arbuckle and Charlie Chaplin used to hold their real-life orgies.

What follows is the most savage attack on Tinseltown since 1992's "The Player", though this time there are no star cameos to sweeten the pill.

Where the Dogme 95 directors had high-minded hopes of bringing cinema back to basics, Rose's use of digital photography is a far more personal challenge to the studios' domination of the industry.

But although it is tinged with his own feelings of bitterness and betrayal, "ivans xtc" nonetheless emerges as a powerful, chilling, and affecting study of one man's dying fall.

Pogledali smo Kunac i ja hrvatski krimić RUSKO MESO Lukasa Nole. Iako je teško žanrovski definisati ovaj film, najpre bih ga definisao kao krimić.

Naime, priča prati devojku koja želi da istraži i osveti ubistvo svoje sestre koja se bavila prostitucijom. Smatra da je najbolji način za to ukoliko se zaposli u bordelu i sama počne da radi kao kurva.

U bordelu međutim shvata da je vlasnik zapravo umešan u mnogo kritičnije poslove koji će mu doći glave i da mora da stane u red kako bi ga ubila.

Nažalost, sve ono što su ključni elementi zapleta se uglavnom prepriča ili se prebrzo odvija dok nevažne stvari poput dugih priča među kurvama i sl. zauzimaju i previše vremena. U tom smislu RUSKO MESO je odličan primer kako reditelj ne ume da razdvoji važno od nevažnog i koliko je jednu premisu imao kad je pisao a drugu kad je režirao film.

Priča je smeštena u vreme Domovinskog rata tako da su zanimljivi detalji u kojima se sporadično pominju i Srbi, i nabavka oružja za vojsku uz pomoć krimosa i sl. Međutim, suštinski film je na bizaran način potpuno temporalno izmešten pošto ima deonica u kojima javna kuća izgleda kao neki pogrešno shvaćen remiks vestern ikonografije, a ulice Zagreba povremeno dobijaju potpuno sulud exploitation oreol carpenterovskog tipa.

Očigledan uticaj na Nolu ostvario je Tony Scottov TRUE ROMANCE, ima lik narkodilera koji je preslikan Gary Oldman iz ovog filma, kao i završni obračun. Nažalost, Nola je jako pogrešno shvatio Scotta. Gotovo je neverovatno kako neko ko pravi film po uzoru na TRUE ROMANCE može da snimi ovakav film.

Nola je okoreli erotoman pa ne čudi da je rediteljski najzainteresovaniji za scene seksa. Iako ni one nisu poreviše uspešne i začuđujuće malo mesa se vidi, ipak u njima je evidentna snažna rediteljeva zainteresovanost.

U odbranu filma, mogu reći i to da je kopija filma bila prilično užasna, tako da bi možda na očuvanijoj kopiji delovao pristojnije. Ovako, RUSKO MESO ostaje kao nepretenciozna hrvatska preteča Bajićevog LEPOG PLAVOG DUNAVA.
