BEAK> - BEAK>



BEAK> were formed in January 2009 by three Bristol musicians, Billy Fuller, Matt Williams and Geoff Barrow. The band have very strict guidelines governing the recording and writing process of their work. The music was recorded live in one room with no overdubs or repair, only using edits to create arrangements. All tracks were written over a twelve-day session in SOA Studio's, Bristol. The album is to be released on Invada records UK and Europe.

Sometimes a band can be no more than the sum of it's parts, but BEAK> are an equation in which it's impossible to define equivalents or totals. Instead the meeting of three talent's form a foundation from which idea's assimilate and propagate. Those talents are:

Billy Fuller. Reared in Bristol, on an aural diet of anything and everything, facilitated later by his time working in the cities top independent record shop Replay Records, and also playing with handfuls of bands – including Invada's first signing: Fuzz Against Junk, as well as Massive Attack, Robert Plant, and Malakai. Billy is BEAK>'S thoughtful pulse; his bass a forceful origin for their superlative narrative arcs.

Matt Williams. Picked up a Yamaha keyboard aged three and never looked back, as Team Brick creates dissonance that immediately elucidates free forming thought, and impacts heavily on BEAK>'S rolling landscape. He enjoys playing air drums whilst cycling, singing lines from a favourite Latin prayer and doesn't understand the music he makes himself.

Geoff Barrow. Musician and producer born near Bristol. Best known for forming and producing popular music group Portishead and part owner of the independent record label Invada Records . Commenting on working in BEAK> "its really good to create music under different conditions than your used too."

Za one koji (jos) vole legendarne Husker Du, kao i solo-radove dvojice Husker The Autora - Bob Moulda (gitara) i Grant Harta (svirao je bubnjeve u Huskerima, na svojim solo-albumima svira skoro sve inst.):

novi album Grant Harta (sesti po redu!), pod nazivom "Hot Wax", sniman u saradnji sa clanovima Godspeed You! Black Emperor, A Silver Mt. Zion (!!!), i Rank Strangers.

P.S. Moglo je to i bolje da se uradi, prije svega produkcijski. Nazalost, najlosiji album od svih koje je do sada snimio (vrlo subjektivno misljenje).
Gledao sam ga '94. u Malmeu, na turneji sa tadasnjim svojim bendom Nova Mob, i to mi je jedan od najdrazih koncerata na kojima sam do sada bio; svirao je tada bubnjeve (bos, dakako!), i na "Keep Hanging On" (sa Husker albuma "Flip Yr Wig") - koja je bila izvedena kao bis-stvar - se prosto raspadao; popili smo pivo poslije certa ("iz Bosne si, kazes?! Ex-Yugoslavia, eeee..." Ma nemoj, stari Husker-fan?!" "Hajdemo za bar, da nesto popijemo..."; "Ali nema pitanja o Mouldu, vazi?" "Vazi! Sta pijes?"), pricali o prijeratnom koncertu u Bg-u, pricali o ratu u ex-YU, popili jos jedno i onda je on nastavio za Geteborg...

Ako ih do sada nisi cula, obrati paznju na ona dva kanadska benda, Godspeed You! Black Emperor i A Silver Mt. Zion (frakcija ovog prvog), koji su gore spomenuti kao Grantovi kolaboranti (uh, zlosutne li asocijacije kod ove rijeci):
poslusaj ih, ekspresivno su nesto najjace (tj. muzicki najekspresivnije) sto se desilo na novijoj muzickoj sceni od, recimo, postojanja Einsturzende-a (tzv.'post-rock' bendovi; instrumentali; bendove cine i njih par gudacha).

Ma, nemaju veze sa Einsturzende Neubauten po zvuku, ali da po emociji. Bliksa i drugari su ipak bliži tom nekom evropskom (i postindustrijskom, jelte, zvuku), dok su Efrim i ekipa više u fazonu razuzdanih gitara i američke širine. Meni je najbolji Godspeed album prvi mada su svi dobri, a i svi albumi A Silver Mt. Zion su odlični...

Pa, da, otprilike ih tako gore i opisah: ekspresivnost svirke i senzibilitet su ono sto ih cini - bar za mene vrijedi takva paralela - nekakvim novomilenijskim pandanom Einsturzendeu (ne radi se, dakle, o cisto zhanrovskoj/stilskoj slicnosti, jer tesko da orkestralnost Godspeeda moze stilom/zvukovno da lici na razbijacki "ludizam" Neubatena; ideoloski, Kanadjani su i deklarirani orto-ljevicari, pa makar ne koristili tekst/implicite pjevanje kao medij za plasiranje svojih stavova, jer sviraju instrumentale, ali ponekad i sam zvuk, stilski i snagom svoje ekspresije, moze takodje biti nosioc ideoloske diskurzivnosti - takav politicki naboj u sebi nosi cjelokupni pojam noise-a, subverzivan naboj, kog takodje obilato koristi i Godspeed u svojim pjesmama, bas kao i Einsturzende u svojim prijasnjim dekonstrukcijama od "pjesama", ili Sonic Youth ili rani Swans itd.).

Meho vjerovatno (a da li?) pod prvim albumom misli ustvari na njihov drugi album (i ja bih trenutno pogrijesio u rednom nizu albuma, da nisam provjerio prije ovog pisanja njihovu diskografiju), na istinski master-piece "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven", definitivno njihov najbolji album objavljen do sada (mada se ni ostale nikako ne moze nazvati "losim", nego samo manje kvalitetno konzistentnim).

Nadjoh i sajt preko kog taj album mozda mozes i skinuti (napisah "mozda", zato sto nisam siguran da li to i zaista mozes uraditi - ne mogu to licno da provjerim jer su nam na poslu blokirali daunloud bilo cega), pa pokusaj to sama da uradis, nadam se da je link jos uvijek zhiv (na samom dnu stranice primjestices tajmer, pa kada otkuca nulu ti mu na istom tom mjestu udari striptiz, pisace ti vec kada je slobodno za daunloud):

Ne, ne mislim na Lift your skinny fists... nego baš na prvi, enigmatično nazvan F♯A♯∞. Mislim, volim ja sve njihove albume, ali pošto sam prvo čuo F♯A♯∞, on mi je ostavio i najdublji utisak i uvek mi je delovalo kao da su kasniji albumi najvećma pokušaj rafiniranja nečega što je već na početku bilo savršeno. East Hastings mi je i danas njihova najomiljenija kompozicija. Način na koji se izdiže iz nežnog šapata do moćnog krešenda mi još uvek tera suze u oči.

Izvini, jer sta ti je projekcija - meni je, a i vecini ostalih ljudi koje poznam, bas taj drugi album njihov naj-album (tvoj izbor je vec nekonvencionalniji, nestereotipan izbor). :)

Pa nisam ni mislila da liče na EINSTÜRZENDE već da su bar upola dobri kao šašavi nemci... :)
Sinoć sam slušala GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR. Ono što sam čula je sjajno. Davide ili Meho, ako vam nije teško, dajte njihovu diskografiju....pa da krenem da ih skidam.
