SEOUL --- Korean helmer Kwak Kyung-taek is set to make the country's first 3D live-action film.

Tentatively titled "The Battle of Yellow Sea," pic is based on the true story of the 2002 gun battle between the North and South Korean navies, the biggest naval clash since the Korean War.

Kwak previously directed "Friend" and "Typhoon."

Co-produced by IM Pictures, pic's budget will be around $2 million.

Lensing will start in March, and pic will be released during the second half of next year.

About 60 screens in South Korea are equipped with a 3D projection system, but the number is expected to rise to 100 by next year.

Pogledao sam korejski SHILJONG Kim Seong-honga. Iako volim korejski repertoarski film i nalazim dosta dobrih naslova izvan onog najslavnijeg mejnstrima ili festivalskog krema, ponekad naletim na minu kao što je ovaj ultrabesmisleni film baziran na istinitoj priči o ludaku koji je na svom salašu kraj Seula silovao i ubijao žene, dok je muškarce naprosto uklanjao da ne smetaju.

Gotovo je neverovatno da istinita priča razvije i rasplete kao najklišetiziraniji C-film, a krivica je autora da te klišee niuje obogatio auetntičnim, uverljivim ili barem dokumentarnim. Ovako, sa tako tankom realizacijom i imidžom istinite priče, SHILJONG stoji kao bizarna potvrda da narod u Koreji živi kao u nižerazrednom korejskom filmu. I to samo po sebi nije loša tema za film, ali svakako ne nižerazredni korejski...

Upravo to preplitanje stvarnosti i filma, činjenica da je slučaj iz stvarnosti tolio sličan filmu, trebalo je da bude osnov za nadgradnju priče. Umesto toga, dobili smo inferiorni film TRUCKovog profila...

A costume martial-artser that never fully realizes its potential, "The Sword With No Name" has several fine moments separated by many more that are just OK. Blending swordplay, high romance, on-the-cusp politicking and the theme of Korea dealing with foreign influences, this handsomely accoutred pic is most notable for a charismatic perf by actress Su Ae ("Family," "Sunny") as a royal spouse caught between duty, off-limits love and reforming zeal. A solid success locally this fall, the pic is ideal for film weeks and some cable outlets.

Late 19th-century setting sees the last of the Chosun dynasty, young King Go-jong (Kim Yeong-min), heading a country that's turned inward in response to growing Western influence (especially via Catholicism) and Japanese aggression. Go-jong is infuenced by his conservative father (Cheon Ho-jin, strong), and cuckolded by his young bride, Ja-yeong (Su), who's fallen for a master swordsman-turned-palace guard (Jo Seung-woo). Fascinating details, such as Ja-yeong's interest in all things Western, via a French friend (Sophie Broustal); the arrival of electricity in the country; and international power politics are unfortunately sidelined in favor of the less original central romance, richly scored by Choi Yong-rak.

Ja razumem suprotan način razmišljanja: neko pogleda film i naoštri se da pročita mangu. Obrnuto mi ne funkcioniše. Možda film jeste moćniji medij, ali Tezuka je Tezuka, a Iwamoto nije. U odnosu na iskorišćavanje ideja, tema, priča, likova, pa čak i načina pripovedanja iz mangi od strane japanske filmske industrije, Holivud sa svojim superherojima izgleda kao minorni trend.

Vampires and contempo samurai schoolkids make an uneasy mix in the so-so Japanese frightfest "Higanjima," adapted from Koji Matsumoto's popular manga series. South Korean helmer Kim Tae-kyun ("Volcano High") tries to compensate for a sketchy story with sheer velocity, but the overall lack of substance undercuts Kim's genre ambitions. Japanese theatrical release is set for January, with low-level ancillary sales shaping up in the West.

A promising, spooky-but-fun opening sequence shows a salaryman being stalked by vampiric Japanese peasants; post-credits, the fun continues with an exhilarating pursuit of high-school student Akira (Hideo Ishiguro) by a violent gang. The scene economically introduces each of his buddies -- including archer extraordinaire Yuki (former J-popster Miori Takimoto) -- who help him escape. A rollicking good time seems to be in the cards, but nothing surpasses these first two setpieces.

The actual story starts as Akira is alerted to the whereabouts of his long-missing elder brother, Atsushi (Dai Watanabe), by sultry, leather-skirted Rei (Asami Mizukawa). Putting aside their reservations about the mysterious woman, Akira & Co. set sail for Vampire Island (the title's direct translation), where Atsushi is battling the bloodsuckers.

Once the action moves to the island, the script seems determined to squeeze as much as possible of the original manga's 24-book history into the two-hour running time. Battles with the vampires, led by Koji Yamanoto's regal albino, soon take on a vidgame-like repetitiveness.

The appearance of a CGI, H.R. Giger-like monster comes a little too late to up the ante. Unsurprisingly, the pic ends with the door left open for a sequel.

The helmer, who made an international name for himself with kinetic high school martial-artser "Volcano High" in 2001, does his best to keep things moving. Performances punch the clock, though production values (apart from the CGI monster) are high-gloss. Hiroyuki Sawano delivers a screaming thrash-metal soundtrack.

Vezano za ovu gornju raspravu, da pomenem da su žene u Japanu imale i još uvek imaju značaj u umetnosti kakav nisu imale ni u jednoj drugoj razvijenoj državi, uprkos svim polnim "nejednakostima", ali to isključuje film iz nekog čudnog razloga. Za Kinu već ne znam.

Breathless i pomenuh gore, na Tokyo Sonatu sam zaboravio, a Mother se vec neko vreme kanim da pogledam, pashce ovih dana definitivno...

Detective Story, pak, je bash grozno losh film. Scenario je, ako zanemarimo Miikeovske touchove poput svojevoljnog upishavanja u muzeju, nekakav losh i neinspirisan krpezh svih trilera o serijskim ubicama, a film je rezhiran i usnimljen kao (losha) studentska vezhba.

ne treba mnogo mudrovati. dovoljno je vratiti se par stranica unazad i konstatovati:

iskusniji režiseri su mahom omanuili, ili nisu iznenadili; sa izuzetkom Kitana - njegov film vredi!

najbolji film iz azije ove godine je Okurbito. ujedno i jedan od filmova godine.

paco and the magical picture book je odličan film. stilski najmoćniji.

woova crvena stena je sjajan spektakl.

moraću da odgledam još par naslova koji za sada nemaju prevod, da bi mogao da donesem konačan sud. žao mi je i par naslova koji će moraju da čekaju naredne mesece. mnogo sam se istrošio gledajući fenomenalne starije naslove, koji su me emotivno ispraznili, i uglavnom fascinirali. o njima uskoro.

Shozo, kaži mi, šta preporučuješ i šta je uopšte dostupno od južnokorejskog reditelja čija me životna priča beskrajno fascinira a to je Sing Sang ok? Kako stoji sa njegovim filmovima iz korejske faze? Jel dostupno nešto iz severnokorejske tipa čuveni PULGASARI i sl.? I, jel ima negde da se nađe MAYUMI? To je fascinantan slučaj, ne znam da li si čitao o njemu, ali to je možda jedna od najluđih severnokorejskih eskapada iz žanra otmica po kojima su inače oni oduvek bili poznati. Iako pretpostavljam da je MAYUMI plakatski film sigurno ga vredi videti baš zbog Shina...

Njegova biografija je mnogo zanimljivija od njegovih filmova, i tu bi u budućnosti mogao da padne jedan kvalitetan dokumentarac.

Pulgasari mi je zaglavljen međ kolekcijama negde sa gomilom godzilla filmova. Ne odskače previše od istih, s tom razlikom što vuče taj rep kontroverze.

Ostalih filmova nema na radaru, osim onih nindža, ako te interesuju.

Ni južnjaci, a tek severnjaci, nemaju neke značajnije naslove iz prošlosti koji bi na globalnom nivou tresli prašinu, pa makar na artističkom nivou..

Nadam se da će me demantovati, i konačno izvući nešto suvislo. Ko zna - možda baš Sing Sangovo. Lik je režirao sve i svašta: drame, horore, fantazije, komedije...

Inache, pogledao sam Okuribito, i zaista je odlichan film. Potpuno upada u onu grupu "topla ljudska pricha" filmova, i nema tu nekih posebnih scenaristichkih ili rezhijskih inovacija, ali je film obojen sa toliko detalja i tako savrsheno, uverljivo i dosledno izveden, da je izvesna emotivna reakcija gotovo neizbezhna.
