Plot/Synopsis

Director Feng Xiaogang is poised to bring audience to tears this summer in China's major blockbuster film Aftershock.  Budgeted at somewhere between $10-25 million, the disaster drama is based on the 1976 Tangshan earthquake that claimed the lives of atleast 240,000 people and severely injured a further 164,000, making the tragedy the largest earthquake of the 20th century by death toll. It deals with the heartbreaking fallout between a mother (Fan Xu) and her quake surviving daughter (Jingchu Zhang) and their eventual reconciliation.  Media Asia has debuted the first trailer which in actuality is really more of a clip featuring a little girl waking up amidst of the corpses and devastation.

Poslednji film poznatog autora Ksjaoganga Fenga, Aftershock,  koju na teritoriji Srbije i regiona zastupa ,,MCF MegaCom Film", postala je film na kineskom jeziku sa najvećom zaradom u istoriji kineske kinematografije.

Tokom prikazivanja u kineskim bioskopima ova drama o katastrofi je zaradila 78,47 miliona dolara. "Aftershock" je rekord postigao u prvih 18 dana prikazivanja.

Prethodni film na kineskom jeziku koji je držao rekord u zaradi je film "The Founding of a Republic", koji je u oktobru 2009. postigao zaradu od 61,49 miliona dolara. U bioskopima u Hong Kongu "Aftershock" je takođe filmu na kineskom jeziku doneo najveću zaradu do sada – 1,55 miliona dolara.

Novim rekordima reditelj Feng potvrdio je svoj status filmskog stvaraoca koji zarađuje najviše novca – među prvih 5 kineskih filmova sa najvećom zaradom u Kini nalazi se još jedan njegov film, If You Are the One.

,,Aftershock" je drama o porodici koju je 1976. godine razdvojio katastrofalni zemljotres u Tangšanu, da bi se na okupu našla decenijama kasnije nakon velikog sečuanskog zemljotresa 2008.

Swords shoot out their nipples, chainsaws project from their butts, deformed faces grow on their bellies and metal claws erupt from their wrists. But these deformities are the weapons they'll use to tear down straight society.

Motivi su mi vrlo jasni, samo mislim da je naslov mogao biti mnogo prikladniji. Mislim da im Kim's Island ponajvishe ne odgovara poshto Kim amerikancima mozhe na prvu loptu samo da zvuchi kao zhensko ime, a imali su i onaj film Nim's Island nedavno koji je bio neki girlie naslov.

Kad su se vec odmicali od direktnog prevoda, mogli su i bolje da improvizuju.

Malo mi nije jasna devojka koja je u sobi 3 god ,ne razumem razlog primetila sam da ima oziljak na celu al' dal je moguce da je to uzrok socijalne ankcioznosti jer ona zivi zivot posredno putem interneta uz podrsku samo svojih roditelja ili je to vise metaforicno da ukazu na ozbiljan socijalni problem u Aziji.
Glumac je sjajan ali ona je otkrovenje.

Pa prisustvo ozhiljka sugerishe neku traumu, neki dogadjaj kroz koji je takav ozhiljak zaradila koji je privremeno disableovao njenu sposobnost za zhivot u drushtvu drugih ljudi.

Plot/Synopsis

On May 18, 1980, the Gwangju (or Kwangju) Uprising broke out against South Korea's military dictatorship. In 2008, the city of Gwangju staged a mass re-enactment of the events that are now celebrated as a milestone of South Korea's quest for democracy. While the uprising itself has been dramatized in Korean cinema, director Park Kwang-man used the re-enactment as a backdrop for a story that suggests that, for some people, history hasn't been as neatly reconciled as the civic commemoration might proclaim.

The Korean title names the film after its main character, a chicken farmer who runs a roadside restaurant. While she's attractive, she was unpopular in school because she was a bit of a hick who, as one classmate says, smelled of chicken shit. Her father disappeared during the 1980 uprising, and she goes to the nearby big city on every anniversary date to see if the authorities have fresh info on his fate. In a way, she's stuck in the past, sneered at by the same classmate who moved out and up in the world. That woman gets a plate of food dumped on her head for her trouble, while Soon-ji has to catfight another female customer who thinks she's flirting with her husband. Jung, a local cop, has his heart set on her, but she's about to be swept off her feet by an unlikely suitor.

Viewers who thought Oldboy was violent are in for "extreme" on an entirely different level with I Saw the Devil, a grisly revenge thriller from Korean director Kim Jee-woon. Although the film is exquisitely shot and even, in many parts, beautiful to look at, Kim's determination to push the envelope will make it hard for many mainstream viewers to stomach.

    Despite its probably unnecessary gory flourishes, I Saw theDevil makes its simple theme resonate in unexpected ways.

In Korea the film was rejected twice by the censorship board before being secured for release on August 12 with seven cuts totalling 80 seconds. Despite a strong marketing campaign and the high-profile casting of stars Lee Byung-hun (G.I. Joe) and Choi Min-sik (Oldboy), the film has suffered poor word of mouth and disappointed slightly at the box office, earning $1.1 million in 11 days.

The film, which has been presold to France (ARP Selection) and the UK (Optimum Releasing), will be screened uncut for its international premiere at Toronto and in competition at San Sebastian.

The rather straightforward plot involves a serial killer (Choi) who hatchets the young fiancée of a National Intelligence Service agent (Lee). Grief stricken, the agent swears to find the killer and to make him live through all that his deceased lover suffered, and more.

Local critics have accused Kim of taking part in a game of one-upsmanship with his compatriot Park Chan-wook. But despite its probably unnecessary gory flourishes, I Saw theDevil makes its simple theme resonate in unexpected ways. Ultimately, the protagonist's desire to enact revenge is presented less as an act of defiance than as a further bit of damage inflicted upon the bereaved.

Zajebano je ovo. Janghwa, Hongryeon ispred Tokyo Fist, doduše zamalo. Mislim, svakako je JH ambiciozniji i atraktivniji film, ali Cukamotova silovitost je u tom filmu naprevaziđena. Osim u Tetsuu koji je ipak snimljen ranije. Ako smem da budem bezobrazan, Ju On mi je previsoko, mada uvažavam da je uspostavio žanr, ma su mi kasniji uradci u istom elegantniji i boljiji...

Paprika director Satoshi Kon dies, aged 46

Satoshi Kon, the widely-acclaimed anime writer-director, has passed away, reportedly from pancreatic cancer, at the age of 46. Long associated with Tokyo's Madhouse studios, Kon helmed four animated features, including 2006's Paprika, as well as creating the TV series Paranoia Agent. He had most recently been working on a fifth movie as director, The Dream Machine.

Collider reports that news of Kon's death first surfaced on Twitter late yesterday. Although rumours were initially treated with caution, they have since been substantiated, when the Otakon website got confirmation from Masao Maruyama, the co-founder of Madhouse. Otakon's post was as follows:

'We don't have many details yet, but have confirmed (via Mr. Maruyama at Madhouse) that it isn't a rumor. Our friends at Madhouse are understandably upset; Kon was a phenomenal director and a huge asset for the studio, but also a good friend of Mr. Maruyama, Rintaro [fellow Madhouse director, responsible for Metropolis in 2001], and many of our former Madhouse guests. To say he'll be missed is an understatement.'

The formidable reputation enjoyed by Kon can be largely attributed to the level of psychological depth he brought to his work. For example, his first film, Perfect Blue, is on one level a female-in-peril slasher. Yet it also manages to offer an affecting account of the main character's fracturing relationship with everyday reality, and deliver a convincing portrait of the sinister side of the fame game.

Paprika seems likely to be remembered as the director's defining artistic statement; the messily ambitious but hugely interesting film having screened in competition at the Venice Film Festival in 2006. With the psyches of its main characters again being crucial to the central narrative, the movie used the playground of the dream state to deliver a kind of surreal sci-fi/fantasy elements adventure.

Kon's latest project was The Dream Machine, which he discussed in a 2007 interview posted on Anime101Suite: "It will be an original story scripted by myself, and I have a feeling that two to two-and-a-half years from now you will see it. It will not be like Paprika in that it will not have a mature target audience but be one that children could enjoy. That said, it will not be a child-orientated film so it could be viewed with an adult's perspective differently from how children will watch it."

Stills from that new movie appeared on Slash Film last year, with the depicted robot characters and future environments reflecting what Kon said about the setting of The Dream Machine in that 2007 chat. "In anime we often create a future that is near, that we can imagine but this movie is about the future of the future, a future folklore story. From a child's perspective it is an adventure film while an adult may view it differently." The title of the film offers intriguing possibilities – is the 'dream machine' simply a reference to some piece of technology? Perhaps the landspeeder-type vehicle pictured below? Or could it be something more complex, akin to the widget that causes all the confabulated chaos in Paprika? Hard to know when, or even if, viewers will get to find out, given that the status of the project is unknown in the light of news of Kon's death.

Kon began his career as a manga illustrator, before working as an artist on Roujin Z, a 1991 anime feature scripted by Akira creator, Katsuhiro Otomo. And his first significant anime credit also came via an Otomo production, with him scripting the 2001-esque Magnetic Rose segment of Memories, the 1995 anthology project based on a trio of Otomo comic strips. Kon made his own directorial debut in 1998 with Perfect Blue, before making Millennium Actress in 2001, in which a famous film star looks back on her life through the prism provided by her own movies. Tokyo Godfathers followed in 2003, his third movie made in collaboration with Madhouse, and in 2004 he created a 13-episode animated television show, Paranoia Agent.

Then, two years later, came Paprika, based on a novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui. Based around the concept of a machine that allows for the entering of other people's dreams, the convoluted story finds boundaries between imagination and reality becoming blurred, and has been repeatedly compared to Inception. An English-language live-action remake has been in the works for a while, under the aegis of Poseidon (ugh) and Troy (double ugh) director, Wolfgang Petersen. Though seeing as Matthew Vaughn has been junking scenes from his X-Men: First Class in a bid to avoid accusations of aping Inception, you do wonder if a Petersen-helmed Paprika will ever make it before the cameras.

Though if the project does falter, it seems unlikely to be on account of any lack of enthusiasm from Petersen – not if his interview with MTV in March of this year is any reliable indicator. "We have a young writer on it, and he jut delivered a very specific and detailed treatment that we're working on. And then if that's a go then he will write the screenplay and that will go very fast track because the treatment is already very detailed. So I'm very excited about that."

Petersen also chronicled the impact the Kon-directed version had on him, remarking that, "the original one - the anime I saw – my people here they came to me and said 'Have a look at this'. And I saw it and bingo, I thought this is fantastic. This is a great piece. That will be a very, very interesting movie. We open it a little bit more so it's more accessible for a wide audience."

Hmm, when big Hollywood types like Petersen, known for making big bland movies like Troy, talk about rendering interesting material 'more accessible for a wide audience', the alarm bells do tend to start clanging somewhat. Film fans saddened today by news of Satoshi Kon's death will surely feel that the release of a completed The Dream Machine would provide more fitting tribute to the late director, rather than a blandified version of Paprika.

zajebano je sastavljati bilo kakvu listu, i gotovo po pravilu nijanse odlučuju.

ju on me je prosto oduvao u trenutku u kome sam ga odgledao. saspens u ovom, nepobitno, low-budget tv filmčiću je nenadjebiv. naizgled nabacane i nepovezane epizode kriju korene i esenciju poimanja straha u japanu. ju on je više stravični kolaž nego li elegantno odrađen posao, ali iz te prljavštine izviru male šimicuve sitne bravure, koje mi nedostaju u ispeglanim nastavcima.

Two Sisters mi je uvek bio malo precenjen. Ima taj film svojih vrednosti, ali ipak ima i previshe proizvoljnosti i nedostataka i najmanje jedan tvist previshe. Mislim, dobar je, vrlo dobar chak, ali daleko od remek-dela.

Kim je meni ipak tek jak drugoligaš u Koreji. Bong i Chan Wook su na vrhu s tim što je Bong znatno ispred Chan Wooka. Kim je tu negde iza ali nije inovator a u pojedinim slučajevima kao što je BITTERSWEET LIFE nije čak ni pristojan falsifikator tuđih originala. SISTERS je OK J-horror koji možda i prevazilazi japanske izvornike, tu se slažem sa Mehom, ali opet nećemo valjda J-horror smatrati nekom ozbiljnom vrstom filma, njih i američki rimejk kad se lepo uradi ume da prevaziđe. :) BAD WEIRD je takođe supersimpatičan spektakl ali je to mnogo slabije od sličnog crowdpleasinga koji nudi HOST...

sva trojica su, barem po mojim standardima, korejski prvoligaši, i sama njihova industrija ulaže dosta u njihove projekte.

tačno je da bong ima najmanje padove i odstupanja, ali, osim naravno MoM, on nema perfektan film u striktno dramaturškom pogledu. kimovi manje poznati naslovi (quiet family) su ubedljiviji od bongovih (barking dogs).

nijedan, naravno, nije inovator, i naslonjeni su na tradicije japanskih i honkonških filmova, ali meni to u principu i nikad nije zvezda vodilja u sagledavanju ukupnog dela.

park je i dalje ispred obojice, bez obzira na višegodišnja posrtanja. njegovi rani radovi su, uz još par, i vrhunac korejske kinematografije uopšte.

Mislim da Cripple ovde odlazi predaleko u provokaciji i utrčava licem i telom u farsu. Američki rimejkovi bolji od japanskih originala??? Gde? U kom univerzumu?? Meni se dopadao američki Ring, dramaturški je svakako disciplinovaniji od Nakatinog i glavna glumica mi je seksualno privlačnija ali u njemu ima previše pojašnjenja, previše, er... diskursa za moj ukus. Japanski je... prazniji, baš kao i Ju on i to su za mene nepobitno intenzivnija iskustva što u domenu horor filmova skoro da mi je dovoljno. Da ne pominjem Nakatino apsolutno remek delo, Dark Water... Pa tu je poređenje naprosto drsko!!!!!!!!!!!
